I like Shelton but it's easy to look at a single wrestler and say he could have been world champion at point X, the problem is when you look at the whole roster you could find a guy who would do better.

Even when they strapped the rocket to Shelton in 2005 the fans just kind of got lukewarm to him. They'd pop sure but he was never getting main event reactions or sales. He turned heel because he was getting a bit stale but that only hurt him, honestly

Shelton said himself that he would completely freeze up once they handed him the mic in front of crowds. If he could talk, they absolutely would have put the title on him at some point. He was so close to the top and then his inability to talk and the mama gimmick completely tanked him. He would have been huge in todays market.

Yeah. Literally anyone can be champion, just give them the Roman push, i.e give them a manager to talk for them so all they ever to do is say their catchphrase, give them a handful of easy moves that anyone could do and require no strength, don't even ask them to keep in shape either and book them to go over every time even if it's just the same shitty interference finish.

The problem with Shelton was that once he leaves the ring, all of his charisma just evaporates, and you kind of forget he exists until he has another great match. The Golden Standard gimmick was the closest he'll ever get to being a star and that was midcard at best.
