The whole reason why someone else has to do the baptism for you is because you have to come super close to drowning for it to kick in all of your near-death senses in order to peak inside the realm of God to let Him see you're there, as you would when you are actually about to die. You can't do this by yourself because your instincts will kick in and prevent you from ever achieving that.
The whole reason why it's a big deal that Jesus trusted John to do his baptism is because Jesus completely and utterly trusted John, a total stranger, that he wouldn't fuck it up and kill him in the process.
