It might just be the camera positioning, but RVD at the very least feels like his missed attacks have some weight to them. That kick he does from from seated position actually looks good.
It does look fucking stupid, the "standoff" spot is always one of the worst ones in wrestling, but there's some moves within the sequence that if you weaved into a WWE style match, even some for AEW, you'd be looking at something pretty good.

This was cool when it was a rare thing. Now it's cringe when it's seen as common as any other basic thing in a match. Also, in the case of RVD and Jerry Lynn, the moves don't look as fake or exaggerated as the Young Bucks and some modern day indie shitter that tries this shit.

I'd actually extend it to the entirely of ECW as a whole ruining wrestling. They kept one upping themselves and it created a trajectory that wasn't sustainable. Also introduced smark chants.

I'll bite. At least when they did it this was completely unique in the US and really never before seen. Plus from what I recall they never went absolutely overboard with it like a guys such as Ricochet or Ospray do. Notice how RVD and Lynn every movement of theirs in this exchange feels very deliberate and nothing too wasted on just simply looking cool? Now contrast that with those two I mentioned previously in their one match where they do that ballet act like they are shooting some sort of cringe worthy action movie trying to look cool instead of actually win a wrestling match.
