They won the verdict but in Illinois a losing party is not required to cover the winning part's legal fees. That suit and the personal suits between the 2 that followed after likely drained him bad but his pride wouldn't allow him to back away from those fights, money be damned.
For someone of Punk's notorious stubborn hard headed pride. It probably kills him that he is in the position he is in that he needs wrestling and not the other way around. He has no levarage in his current position which is why he is resorting to the shameless pandering/manipulating of public opinion to get him on side.
