it is impressive but I've seen people do longer falls with less harm to themselves. Hardcore stuff is best left to people and companies that know how to do it right. This match injured foley more than all of the crazy deathmatch stuff he did in Japan. That tells us a lot.

I don't recall hearing Foley say that.
His nestea plunge bumps were probably worse than the cage bump.
He got a lot of his problems from that match with the Rock taking several unprotected chair shots. His bad knees are just old typical old wrestler bad knees.

The ring may have had less give than the announce table. Also that spot might have not been planned. Undertaker and Foley claim it wasn't but who really knows other than them.

Taking bumps from the top of the old blue cage to the 80s WWF mat would have been very hard.

i know that i've heard him repeatedly talk about being injured during those hell in a cell matches, and said that they shortened his career. He seemed pretty healthy back when he was an indy guy doing deathmatches and the like. My point is that WWE has never done the "hardcore" style very well.

It's impressive when you factor in that Foley did it totally unprotected. Twice. In the same match. It's not like Shane O' Macs table bump where there was some sort of inflatable padding. Foley took 100% of both those bumps. Especially the second one where the chair destroyed his brain on the way down.

You can see even before the second unplanned bump, their feet sinking through the cage as zip ties pop off. And for that other anon, it definitely wasn't a planned bump, because if it had been planned, one of the wrestlers would have moved the chair away (the one that ended up hitting Foley)

it was obviously planned, everything was ready, they just play up the legend that the second bump wasn't planned. foley was hurt but it doesn't mean it wasn't planned or that they thought he was dead, if they really thought that he wouldn't have been given the ok to interfere in the main event just moments later after his match and mankind had a regular match the next day on Raw.
Clearly he got more hurt than was planned which is why in his hell in a cell match with triple h they added padding on the ring when he went to do his spots

It's already been said by the people involved that a bump through the cell was planned but it gave away sooner than intended. So they rigged it in a way designed to break, it just happened before either guy was ready. Do with that information what you will.
