Tony intentionally doesn't use her, throws her on dark, or "forgets" to renew her visa keeping her off TV for months at a time because he hates the joshi and doesn't want them being more over tha the women he actually wants to push (Britt, Jade, WWE castoffs) or other general things (old ROH guys). He intentionally killed her momentum because she was more over and doing better ratings than the stuff he actually cares about and it was making him seethe.

She was never a draw because she worked for very small indies aside from a 2 year run in Stardom as mostly a mid-carder.
Japanese joshi fans all know her because she started wrestling as a child and had a 15 year career before she even stepped in to an AEW ring.

What the other guy said. When I got back into wrestling, they made it out as though Asuka, Shida, Riho, and Emi Sakura were these big Japanese stars from NJPW's IWGP. Then I looked them up... they're pretty much indie talent. kek.

wow crazy. i just looked up asuka, i assumed she was a njpw champ or something based on how shes marketed over here

so who are the current female japanese gigadraws that if you were tony/vince and could steal anyone you would pick as a future megadraw? maybe asuka shows that what works in japan doesnt translate to here but i guess to really make it here you need 10/10 looks and some charisma

Kenny was the joshi connection and he came from the indies in Japan. He was connected to Shida for years as they'd often be seen together randomly and it was the worst kept secret they were dating.

Before Stardom was bought by Bushiroad it was just another indie like all the joshi companies - drawing the same half full Korakuen Hall and running Shin-Kiba 1st Ring, so all joshi were going to be indie talent from Asuka to Shida to Io.

Even now Stardom is mostly made up of mid-carders and shitters taken from other indie promotions, they just have a bigger stage and spotlight to make it seem like they're big stars.

There's no one joshi who is a big draw that I can think of.
Stardom is a draw from its brand and big money marketing - Bushiroad markets them more than New Japan but I don't think the roster matters they're all pretty interchangeable.

Same for TJPW the next biggest joshi company.

The hot item right now it Saori Anou, again mostly because of marketing as she's been around forever and is a freelancer who works numerous indies. She showed up in Stardom a few weeks ago and it was treated as this huge deal by the pro wrestling media.
She's pretty and a decent creative wrestler who would probably do fine in AEW.
