He's looked a ton better against ZSJ than in other matches in my opinion, but I think that's partially because Zack is extremely good at structuring and pacing a match. Jay also excels at that and Shooter looked bis best against him up until that point.
People forget how recently Umino returned. He'll improve tons over the coming year.

Did SANADA have any connection to Misawa? I don't know the difference between the Emerald Flowsion and the Cobra Flowsion but I've only seen Okada use a Flowsion when burying NOAH guys, so was that a statement about SANADA originally being an AJPW guy or am I just overthinking this?

SANADA is an AJPW guy, so in that sense, sure. He uses Misawa tributes in his moveset, so I suppose he is at the very least a fan, but I wouldn't read too much into it. Okada has used the Cobra Flowsion as his finish for every big match since he debuted it a year ago.
That move itself has no connection to NOAH aside from the Flowsion part being Misawa's finisher. The Cobra part comes from the Cobra Twist setup, and is a tribute to Inoki's usage of that move.

I can see it. I like the change in look better than most seemed to, or maybe the detractors are just more vocal. People say he looks like a CAW now but I think the simple clean-shaven non-dyed look is classic and even if his face isn't as distinct as most of these it harkens back to the more no-nonsense looks of Inoki, Fujinami, Choshu, Tenryu, the Pillars, Tsuruta, Shibata, etc. It struck me that until Jim Cornette pointed it out around the time of Forbidden Door I didn't realize how few of the modern Japanese guys wear natural black hair. I think Goto, Yano, Narita and I guess Suzuki are the only Japanese guys outside of J5G that don't dye their hair.

I want to say it's definitely this. It feels like the opinion in the gamethread (which is a minuscule sliver of people, I know, but I think it's the truest sample size of NJPW fans on here) was overwhelmingly positive and the hate came 6 hours later when the board was busy circlejerking over Okada losing to SANADA. I agree that he looks more like a 90's ace now than he ever did before. Even though I was personally a huge fan of the space biker look he had ages ago, and I liked his previous look, he needed a change to go with his new moves, stable and card position to wash the jobber smell off.

I think I remember Okada going to challenge for the trios belts sometime during the upcoming tour, with Tana and X. Hopefully it continues that streak, even though Narita is the only one that really qualifies for the rookie-killing. I kinda wished he'd get a challenge, or a singles match, anything, against Okada. Their chemistry in the tag match was killer.

As someone who hasn't watched much DragonGate at all, I find that interesting. My primary issue with him was always how he sometimes does a little more than he needs, but he's very good aside from that. GLEAT suffers from not really having enough credible top guys, so I'm impressed they "held off" for this long on him.

I think he was sort or the Roman Reigns of Dragongate, in a promotion that puts more focus on mic ability maybe than the average puro promotion I think he just falls short of some of his unit mates like Eita and Lindaman. Here's a brief history of T-Hawk (post his run as Tomahawk T.T. and fake Naoki Tanizaki)

>T-Hawk and Eita gets pushed instantly winning the 2013 Summer Adventure Tag League
>in November they win the Open the Twin Gate titles in the process (in a tag heavy promotion like DG that is essentially the #2 belt)
>fast forward to 2017, T-Hawk has won more stuff, changed units twice and now stand as the #2 in the Verserk unit, directly under Shingo
>losing unit disbands match between T-Hawk's old unit, Monster Express and his current unit. Verserk wins with T-Hawk making the final pinfall
>2017 King of Gate tournament is happening, T-Hawk wins it by beating Eita to get to the finals before defeating Naruki Doi to win the entire thing
>2018 and it's time for another losing unit disbands match. This time it's the longest running faction in Dragongate, the ever-popular Jimmyz. Verserk wins when T-Hawk makes the final pinfall
>T-Hawk and Eita have basically taken over Verserk as the unofficial leaders and finally kick out Shingo and proceeds to rename the unit Antias

Another brutal Cerberus and T-Hawk is your new G-REX Champion. I think it's the right choice. He made Ishida look strong in defeat and there's no question as to him feeling like one of GLEAT's top guys after this reign, despite how little time he's actually spent in the promotion. Kudos to both Lindaman and T-Hawk for legitimizing him and, at least somewhat, Black Generation International, by extension. I'd love to see Tamura as champ soon, assuming Ito gets the LIDET belt and that the G-INFINITY belts are meant to go to someone else at some point. LIDET aside, Ito would be my pick for GLEAT "rookie" to take the belt but his new stable seems to have sorta locked him in the undercard in terms of G-Pro. I wish I spoke Japanese to get an idea what the fuck Yan's Family even is. I know there's at least one other anon watching GLEAT in here, maybe you can help.

This match sadly turns into an unfortunate string of KENTA entirely forgetting his leg is hurt towards the final bit like most KENTA jr. title matches tend to go, but he's very good about selling it in this one compared to most. I love this powerbomb "sell".

In defense of the webms in this thread, there are extremely few FINISHER trades in here. The only finishers that don't end a match here, not counting rollups or submissions, are SANADA's moonsault (though that is no longer his final finisher), Lindaman's German (which is broken up in a tag spot) and Ishida's wristlock suplex.

I think it was supposed to be Tanahashi vs Ospreay but Ospreay got injured, so they put in Ishii instead as a last minute replacement. It's two guys years past their primes, wrestling 6th on the card, for one of the least important singles belts in the company and these guys put fucking everything into it. I thought we were going to see an actual Ishii Driller for the first time in god knows how long. Damn, now I gotta go rewatch that match again.
