I think the main reason why Corny likes Punk is because they never worked with eachother. Since Corny didn't intimately get to know Punk's negative qualities, he has an easier time pretending they don't exist, or that they're at least more forgivable than The Elite's. But much like the people who, say, sided with Trump's takeover of the Republican Party, the demands for maintaining loyalty only metastasized and become more unreasonable with time; and the moment Corny has even the mildest break with Punk, he'll be treated exactly as kindly as Punk treated Colt, or Max, or Daphne, or Darby, or Mox, or Page, or his fucking brother, or anyone else of his many former friends and allies.
