Is it honestly too late to save wrestling as a whole?
Everyone is "in" on it so they can't really get worked anymore by anything but fake cringe Twitter "drama".
The basics are something newer guys feel like they don't have to learn so nobody can sell anymore.
There are no new stars being made.
The audience is melting away and there's like 2 million total people for every fed and show.

It doesn't matter how "in" on it everyone is, I really doubt that many people outside of the deep south thought wrestling was real even in the 80s. The problem is wrestlers don't attempt to structure matches like real fights and all the striking looks fucking horrible. Guys don't plan spots within the context of the match, they just do shit because they saw other guys doing it and it got a pop. The fact that wrestlers still do Irish whips in 2023 shows you how fucking braindead and creatively bankrupt wrestlers are.

Wrestling was successful in spite of realism. Hogan hitting the ropes to drop the leg, Rock hitting the people's elbow. It is fake and corny but so are the punches they throw, so is locking a guy into a submission for three minutes. Its impossible to go back to early days of worked shoots. Wrestling is now about dumb gimmicks, dumb fun and spectacle and has been for decades.

Despite being "in" on it, wrestling fans are the most worked people on the planet. And just look at other industries, like MMA. People get worked all the time by gimmicks. Guys like Adesanya and Covington garner massive heat. It's just all in the presentation.
So few guys within the wrestling business actually respect it enough to take it seriously. All they want to do is pop live crowds and meme stars.

The beautiful thing about wrestling is not that it's fake but it's the best aspects of both real and fake.

Its fine that everyone knows it's predetermined, the important thing is there is some intrigue or fascination with the extent to which it is real, ie if there is real animosity, real pain, real striking, some element of real personalities and emotions being shown etc.

The fake and real are currently out of balance with things being overly fake, and so wrestling is unpopular.
