He was an incredible worker, but never will anything be stated about Benoit without the “but he murdered his kid and wife.” shit, it goes way beyond professional wrestling. People who like wrestling will always admit he was amazing in the ring but his legacy will always be rightfully tainted.

That being said the 4th one of OP’s is also partially true, it’s just hard for anyone to swallow that a man killed his family, no matter what his brain state was.

I don’t disagree that a certain empathy should be given to those with severe CTE, no one will ever excuse the behavior though, even though there’s much more to blame than the individual. The only thing you can do is preventive measures, which in professional wrestling has made tremendous strides compared to boxing, football, ufc etc.

Just about anyone that worked with him swears he’s a top five talent in the history of the business. He should always be a mandatory film study for anyone dumb enough to try this shit.
That being said, he might’ve single handedly done the most damage to the industry, to the point of where it could’ve legitimately killed it as a viable profession. He’s the flashpoint for the sanitation of the product, for better and worse.

OJ or Ray Lewis or Mike Tyson. Yeah these guys either did that shit or got convicted of it, but they were so good there is a measure of detachment. OJ is a good example. They haven’t erased him from memory. People will still say he was one of the greatest running backs of all time, College or Pro. They just don’t invite him to the super bowl half time show, they make sure to call him a controversial figure. It’s also based on severity. Tyson raped some bitch, he was champion of the world 4 years later. Ray Lewis probably killed at least one guy, was involved with two but he won another super bowl and he’s beloved. OJ killed his ex and her fuck buddy. People still respect his game but he’s off the Xmas card list. Jon Jones almost killed a pregnant woman in a DUI hit and run, he’s failed multiple drug tests, he’s still the GOAT.

2 things, What Benoit did? Killed his own kid. It’s beyond the pale. If it was just her then maybe you wouldn’t see the compete erasure. Jimmy Snuka killed his girlfriend and they didn’t address it for years. Scott Hall killed a guy. Your kid though? That’s too much. Wrestling not being real, you can just write someone off and never mention them, like a sitcom. None of these things in wrestling are real accomplishments. They are just plot devices that drive the story you’re watching.
