Saying it stood out is an understatement, Bret was innovative. He popularized the "reality" sports approach. He literally got chewed out Vince for saying he believed wrestlers should be athletes before bodybuilders. He even had to fight to wear a singlet as a solo.

I never did. He was big around the time I was in high school. My friend was a diehard fan of his, but I preferred Mr. Perfect and Ric Flair. I just didn't get it. He had poor mic skills and while he had some nice moves, so did Hennig and Flair, plus they were good on the mic. He was overrated imo.

I turn 40 this year, I'll tell you how I saw it. When I first saw Bret, he was in the Hart Foundation and they would get the tag titles a couple of times. Then he ventures out on his own and gets the IC title just by being a better, smarter wrestler than his competition. Then only 14 months of being at that level, he won the World Title. So he was a Grand Slam champion which meant he was willing to grind to get to the top. Warrior and Savage bypassed the tag scene and Hogan was put right into the world title picture when he came back in 1983 so it was like Bret tried harder so he was clearly a cool guy.

God you zoomer retards are so fucking dumb. Bret Hart was over as duck because he had cool music, cool gear (90s pink was cool) and he always gave his shades to kids near ringside, so kids loved him. He also was a fantastic worker and very believable in the ring. No one disliked the Hitman until he went full Canadian heel

Watch the feud with Steve Austin. Hitman as the babyface fights Stonecold as the heel. At the end of the match, Austin blacks out in a pool of blood, in the sharpshooter, the crowd turns on Bret with boos and start throwing shit into the ring. The wholesome champion becomes a sadistic villain, while the asshole heel becomes the too tough to die hero.

They don't tell this kind of story anymore. Everyone's just a selfish asshole all the time, and Roman always wins at Mania.
