>>9893935That shit wouldn't have worked for Vince after Austin either, not just 2023.
Brock wanted to play football, be in the UFC. And after Benoit the entire company needed a soft reset.
And they got one, in the form of a money printing Cena.
This was the ultimate goal of buying out the competition. Sure, Vince COULD cater to a blood thirsty attitude era crowd, listen to Shane about his ECW plans and the UFC, but instead Vince chose to
pivot towards making the WWE a commercial success, even if it meant selling out.
There was nowhere else for Brock to go. He wasn't winning in the UFC, and Vince had Heyman in Brock's pocket giving him advice from the old man. SURE, Brock. You could let your star fade away in the UFC heavyweight division, or you could come to the WWE, do five dates a year for a massive payday, and do it all over again the following year. Everyone knows you're the real guy, everyone knows you could squash Cena if you wanted to. As a matter of fact you can even tell the papers you could squash Cena, if you wanted to that is.
Vince benefits.
Cena benefits.
Brock benefits.
Heyman benefits.
Vince literally looked into the future and saw what could be. Marble mouth Andre and the charisma vacuum Brock weren't going to carry that company to the ends of Vince's vision the way Cena could.
He's a fuckin genius.
