Did WWE do themselves a massive disservice by hugely devaluing their PPVs with the Network?

The Network was a great idea, but should the PPVs have been included? Their subscriptions numbers were always inflated because they did so many free promos.

Nah. Most wrestling fans would probably only buy Wrestlemania and maybe Royal Rumble, I bet it’s like in the low tens of thousands for the other PPVs, so let’s say they’re getting $40/year from a wrestling fan. Now they can get $120/annum with the subscriptions and they can get that consistently given wrestling fans are lazy and will forget to cancel subscriptions

For the most part no, but there were a couple of times we got two ppvs in a single month, not counting NXT.

This probably devalued the DVDs though. And made it easier for diehard fans to document all of the autistic changes they've made.
One turboautist had an encyclopedic knowledge of every time they edited the show, and would use the network to prove it. Small things like tweaking match graphics, or larger things like reshooting entire scenes to make Stephanie look sexier.

The network/peacock model has allowed them to re establish Rumble, Mania and Summerslam as *the biggest shows* that fill stadiums

I like how the in between shows have settled into this In Your House model of 5 to 6 matches, usually anchored by a gimmick match and now traveling to international audiences.

My thoughts are:

- WWE's booking really isn't good enough for 12+ PPV's. I've always had the theory that in a single year, you can't really have more than 2 absolute must see matches due to how long it takes to build up stuff.

- WWE has too much TV time to fill, which is part of the reason the booking isn't good enough. When you have all that extra time but still need to produce ratings, you're not getting the best stuff possible. You have to give away too much and everything has to be sped up more.

- Ultimately, WWE is probably making more money on PLE's than they were on PPV's and the goal at the end of the day is to make money.
