Heavyweight has more than one meaning. Junior Heavyweight’s exist. They’re heavyweights, but junior sized. It’s really not ridiculous at all.

Because the name of the title carries way too much weight for it not to be called that.
IMO not that my opinion matters much, dropping the World Heavyweight Championship was the WWE's biggest mistake with the belts.

It's two titles, and two belts.
the WWE World Title with the lineage dating back to 1963;
and the Universal Title with that lineage going back to 2016.
This is their 3rd World Championship.
They haven't yet expressly declared if it's the same lineage as the NWA/WCW Big Gold that they used for the WWE version of 'World Heavyweight Title' which also used the Big Gold design, starting with HHH in 2002.
