Yeah but I’m referring to the storyline of it, not the smark behind the scenes stuff. What Triple H said recently on Raw essentially boils down to: Roman is a chicken shit heel that constantly gets bailed out and is taking time off so now we’re making a new World Title for whatever brand he doesn’t get drafted to (cause now the brand split matters), and this will be the new workhorse, blue collar title. How is that pity, besides from a smark standpoint?

Because Paul didn't want to lose.
It's that simple.
So he came up with a retarded "totally not a midcard belt guys" world title, which is the exact same thing he's doing now.
This entire era of WWE and its brand split garbage needs to be forgotten but it's the only time Paul was ever relevant so he has to keep bringing it up.

Paul didn't lose clean until 2005?
what or when was Paul's last clean loss before Batista? 1997? 1998? i don't recall HHH losing after turning babyface in 1998. After Austin won the title, he defended against HHH on house shows so that might be it.

Yeah but they’ve been established secondary titles. It’s only fair both brands have a top guy champion. I love the WHC for that reason.

But I think a lot of people forget this back in the day. One was called the WWE Title, and one was called the WHC. Meaning, there wasn’t two world champions. One company champion, one world champion. It’s semantics but, I feel like they both have value

It actually is worse than it was on paper, because Austin's heel reign in the title defense at Judgement Day and during the Backlash tag match, he was down for the visual pin both times. But it was Triple H that needed to do the save to help Steve Austin win. He later went out on Raw and told Austin to his face that he was saving his ass. It made Austin look really fucking weak

Vince, before Austin was sidelined for a year, plans were originally going to be HHH getting a 8 month world title reign after defeating Austin clean at Summerslam '99 before Steve would get his win back at the Royal Rumble and put the Rock over in the main event of Mania. However he was flopping hard as champion and Austin was going to beat him at Survivor Series and turn heel instead, since they needed someone to fill the gap so Rock could be established as the top man

The problem is unification only works when you do interim bs. Unifying both shows titles always cools off top talent. Reigns having both top titles cooled off lashley, drew, kross, seth, cody, brock, wyatt among others because there's no elevation. Same with the tag titles the uses holding both means there's a bunch of lower card teams that got cooled off or aren't on TV. They brought gallows & Anderson back to sit in catering. Maximum Male Models, Los lotharios, alpha academy, all direction less because 1 set of titles.
