I agree that the heel turn itself was a mistake and should never have happened. Austin should have squashed Gaitch, beat Rock clean, and held the belt as top babyface until he could drop it to Lesnar or Rock later on.
But the actual storytelling and build up to it was fine and done effectively, it was just a poor business decision.
