Yeah, the moment Punk came out like a week later was really fucking gay. People look back fondly, but the only good moment was the pipebomb -> MITB stretch which was like 3 weeks and one match kek. Everything that came after this match was dogshit. Based Nash for somehow pushing his way into the hottest angle WWE had in many years, but you have to wonder wtf they were thinking considering the Summer of Punk was not a mistake - they wrote that shit to happen so why did they fuck it up so quickly

Nah, I think doing the Tournament for the vacant belt and then building Cena vs Rey for Summerslam with Cena winning and then Punk coming out at the end is the better booking.
If ADR REALLY needed to be WWE Champion, they could’ve held off until Night of Champions, do the unification match there and have ADR cash in afterwards.

Punk returning after a month is way too soon. Him actually going to New Japan creates more buzz for japanese wrestling in the west and in turn makes him a far far bigger draw by the time he comes back.

New Japan really wasn't doing too well at the time, and while I'm sure they would have enough financial resources to pay Punk and WWE, they just didn't have the right leverage that they would later generate 3-4 years later. Besides, if Punk wrestled there he would have a high risk of injury due to the nature of their style, potentially derailing the long term plans.

Champion Punk wrestling in ROH, New Japan, and in local indies ultimately would've put a lot of eyes on those companies, even drawn them larger gates and sell out venues. Escpecially local indies.
New Japan's 2017-2019 western boom period would've also happened much sooner.
WWE could've actually preserved the health of professional wrestling, but no. Everything Punk said in that pipebomb promo was just bullshit at the end of the day, sure, he was right, but he didn't back it up.

WWE themselves have already done joint shows with Japanese promotions and Punk literally wrestled in ROH under WWE contract.

99% of these problems are all related to Vince being being too high on Alberto Del Rio (who was "supposed to be a really big deal") and The Miz. Nash coming in didn't help matters either, but the Del Rio fixation just wouldn't go away.

Vince finally corrected his mistake by having Punk go over Del Rio in MSG at Survivor Series huge, even with Howard Finkel announcing, but it was too late by that point.

WWE's problems started in 1999 after Wrestlemania XV, it was a horribly booked year and Austin got stale along with burying all of the midcarders in a failed attempt to shove HHH down everyone's throat. You can literally prevent all future booking issues by fixing this year

i don't think punk was supposed to go over. he was supposed to be a one-off heel for Cena to face like R-truth the month before. then they changed their minds on it and couldn't figure out what to do with him. They had a Del-Rio title reign penciled in so they got back to that.
