But planning without knowing the full situation, how much time the colony had left, and what the odds were would be worse than doing nothing at all. Making your choice to swallow the bitter medicine and get it over with quickl; despite your personal feelings towards the Commander in charge of the defense of Alpha Corvi II, Commander Yao was your superior officer and was more knowledgeable about the defense efforts present circumstances
"Shika, I'll get patched up when there isn't any work that needs me on my feet" You say, patting the shorter girl on her shoulder, your face reflected in the gold tint of her visor. You could imagine and picture clearly the face she had to be making under her helmet.
"Fine" She said in a huff, and flicked her still wet with blood scalpel around, before securing it back into her medical kit "Not much I could do with all the armor on anyways"
"You really should stay off your feet, Sir" Jorge warned, looking up from staring gloomily at his hands, his wisp of a mustache stuck to his upper lip from sweat
"You want to be the one to force him to stay still?" Daisy asked, lifting up her head as you shakily rose to your feet.
"Where's the bridge?" You ask, turning to Squad Skua, who were still picking their jaws off the floor and gawking after seeing how young you and your squadmates were underneath your helmets.

404TormentedCache !!SbLQkGPnZPO ID:YY6tlei8 Wed 03 Sep 2025 16:31:42 No. 6301136 Report It is a bit of a jog to the rendezvous point and outside of a few updates from Lilac and Indigo and passing police cars driving to the scene of the tragic collapse of on of the cliffside villas, nothing of note happens as you travel on foot and alone to the rally point. The street fighting between Indigo and the Rødt Skjegg is far enough away to not risk the position you'd chosen as the fallback point for all three fire teams, but judging from the activity you're noticing, the local authorities haven't ignored or somehow missed the last stand of the Red Beards in the city. You slow down as you wind down the hill that leads outside of the urbanized portion of Black Sand's main settlement, so as not to slip on the looser sands or draw attention as you head out into the Carefully cultivated "Rural" part of the colony, that spreads out like weeds alongside the cost, playing double duty as both a tourist attraction and to supplement the colony's less attractive and more industrialized agricultural sector production. On a hill, away from the hustle and bustle of the city and the Beaches swarming with Civvy's, sits the truck that Nesta commandeered. But much more noticeable at a distance, is her shocking red hair, that is a bit past regulation length. She's taken off her helmet. Despite the growing heat as the cloud cover breaks, the officer in you is already scripting out the butt chewing you should give her for taking off her armor and dressing down mid mission. And it seems like she was a bad influence, cause as you round up the hill, you see Shika has taken off her helmet as well, with soot and grim built up on her face. Only Illya is fully suited up, with some surface level damage to her armor caused by Shrapnel or lucky ricochets. "Picked a lovely view, Lieutenant, almost wish I'd packed for a picnic" Nesta chuckles patting the hood of the car as you circle around it, seeing that Shika has re-upped the tranquilizers on the captives and administered a narq dart to your mother, leaving her slumped in the front passenger seats "Too hot" Shika mutters, as she swivels her helmet around and replaces it on her head "No hostile acitivyt to report, Sir. But I have to agree with her, this is a lovely view" Illya reports, before wistfully sighing as she looks out on the beach "Almost reminds me of Emerald Cove" "That's the point. Black Sands Colonial administration desperately wants to turn the planet into a tourist hotspot like the Cove, despite its status as an outer colony" You tell her as you crouch down "But that scenic view out there, is all natural. Enjoy it while you can, We're going into standby mode. Unless Lilac or Indigo need back up, our job now is to watch our prisoners and guard whatever that is in the back of the truck" "Was wondering about that", Illya, glancing at the bed of the truck, admits warily Cont

"Which is why I'm going to call in a pick up, to get it off world and off our hands" You tell them "Keep a tight perimeter. If any curious locals start gathering, we'll drive further into the hills"
"Aye Aye!"
You walks over to a nearby, dead tree, and connect your COMs to the frequency of the UNSC Skidbladnir. It takes a few minutes to get a secure and stable line to your own ship.
"Lieutenant" That now familiar and comforting voice of Rita answers "I hope your mission is going well"
"For now. Patch me into the bridge" You find yourself smiling
"Of course. Currently, the Skidbladnir is shadowing an unknown vessel of suspected Insurectionist ties. I am sure they'd value your input, Askeland. Presently, they are merely observing the craft, by order of Lieutenant Junior Grade Valerie Faure" She answers "And, do come back safely, I'd loathe to lose a friend"
"I don't think the Innies have a weapon that could put me in the ground, but I appreciate the concern, sister rita' You says warmly, and wait to be redirected to the command staff
"Sir" You here Valerie Faure answer "Just the man I wanted to hear from. You've got good instincts, not long after your squad departed, following your orders, we monitored the outward transmission coming from the colony and Ensign Kobal, recognized an anomaly in our scanners and Ensign Kon was able to trace several of the active transmission to the location of a...well, we think its a Insurrectionists attempt to make a Oni Prowler, Lieutenant. Kobal thinks its stealth system, while less effective than our own stealth ablative coating, is a derivative of it. I call it a pale imitation. But its better tech than what the rebels should have access to"
"Where they sourced it from is not your concern, LTJG" You answer "Has it made any movements or changed position"
"No. It appears to be monitoring Black Sands from distance, Sir" She answers back rapidly "Coste is wanting to lead an EVA and attempt to capture it, ONI style. I was waiting for permission to shoot it out of the sky"
"Can you send the second Pelican down to these coordinates?" You ask rather than answer
"I'll scramble the warrant officer immediately" Faure answers immediately "Should have no issues covertly breaking atmosphere"
"Good. We've picked some valuable cargo that needs extracting before the mission is complete" You answer, nodding "As for what to do about the ghost ship..."

Another theory confirmed good..... And another opportunity to take or wait a while for it. I am almost sure 100% its of the Einherjar. And if not them it must be affiliated. Why be here otherwise ? Watching over the shiny sands ? Lol This aside and the fact it remains a innie stealth ship above an UNSC world (so i doubt they have pacific intentions), with Chen and the second pelican coming.... Purple Team could board it and partecipate in Coste boarding action. But we have remained here for a reason, in case our brothers and sisters need help. Still its an opportunity. Could be an idea. Good on Nesta and Shika for take some fresh sunlight and air. This kind of mission allows it.

Provided a combat team is under command of course.
Having an Innie stealth ship captured, is something we could use really well on the report of this operation. Another victory to bring home.
Following it back home would be also nice but this is one of a kind ship. The Innie Movement that made this thing, actually tried and made something that more or less ..... works. We didn't find it immediately above Black Sands, it took some searching and work from our officers and crew. Even if it remains an inferior ship, this is too good to pass up and having it would as a bonus reveal whatever they where planning in Black Sands. If they arent Einherjar. If they are...well we know already what they want to do.

If we perform a boarding action and it's affiliated with any of the more aggressive innie factions they'll trash it's navigational data at best or blow it out from underneath the feat of who whoever we send over. Now, if it's from Venezia we should put the whole colony in our big book of grudges and dump Vali on the shitheels the first chance we get.
Also if we really want to capture it we can always just send up one or two of our Spartans with the retrieval Pelican and have them and Coste board it. Would raise the chances of an actual capture and minimize any potential casualties. ODST have trouble with the Einherjar if it is them so I'd rather not send Coste and some combat experienced crewmen to get murdered or captured in a failed attempt.

404TormentedCache !!SbLQkGPnZPO ID:YY6tlei8 Thu 04 Sep 2025 21:42:06 No. 6301662 Report You pause, tongue pressed against the back of your teeth as for a brief moment you consider letting Coste off her leash to give her a chance to prove she's as good as her record suggests and put that ONI Field agent training to work, but the Skidbladnir's crew aren't spartans and not all of them have the training or record to make an EVA to board a hostile ship anything else but an extremely risky gamble. The sort of daredevil maneuver that'd end up in the textbooks of officer school, but more importantly.\ It'd be risking lives without any real reason or gain, that isn't the kind of Officer you told yourself you'd become. Last thing you want is to gain a reputation as a butcher. Your blood doesn't run cold enough to send your men on what amounts to a near suicide mission without a damn good reason. Coste could select the best team out of the crew to play space pirate with, but there's too many variables, too high of a risk. She wouldn't suggest it if she wasn't confident she could facilitate a capture of the ship, but she's ONI. And with how little you know, you can't be confident that any causalities would've been lives spent rather than wasted. Besides, there's no telling if that ghost ship is flying Einherjar colors or is just a bit of insurance one of the more canny envoys brought along just in case. Its a powder keg and boarding it could lead to a diplomatic disaster and the peace talks falling through, playing right into the Einherjars hand. But if its Einherjar... You make up your mind in that moment "Get a tracker on it, covertly" You start relaying the standing orders to your flight deck officers "Get Ensign Soner Kobal and Ensign Kon Kiyomi to work identifying the allegiance of our ghost ship. If its Einherjar owned, we'll proceed treating it as any other enemy craft, if it belongs to another Insurrectionist faction, we'll leave well enough alone" "Aye Aye, Sir" Valerie responds tersely "And if it takes aggressive action?" "Should be obvious LTJG, then you shoot it out of the sky and leave every soul on the vessel to the black" You tell her "Keep me updated and have Rita prepare an approximate arrival time for Chen's pelican, Lieutenant Askeland out" You breathe out, relaxing and untensing your shoulders as you walk back to the truck, scanning the surroundings for approaching threats or civilians, before pausing as you caught the view Nesta had been admiring. And smile, rapt with the beauty of the sun's light dancing across the waters lapping at the colony's namesake black sand shores. It was breathtaking. If you weren't on the clock, you'd sit down and sketch the whole, scenic scene, capturing it forever in the moment. And as you admired the natural beauty of one of humanity's worlds, you were reminded of the real war and the enemy that needed Spartans like you to beat. Not the rebels, not even the Einherjar even if they were a threat and some of the best fighters the insurrection had. Cont

A threat like the covenant. A genocidal empire of alien zealots that believed humanity to be a blight on the universe, for reasons presently unknown and possibly beyond human understanding. A vision of the sea boiled away and the black sands covering the hills and reaching down to the beach turned to an obsidian sheet of glass flickered in your mind's eye.
Without realizing it, you'd began to clench your hands into fists, and your heart had began to pound
"We'll stop them" You promised to the air and soil of the world, and the people living on it who wouldn't recognize you as human.
"Sir? You say something?" Illya asked, and you shake your head
"Just lost in my thoughts soldier, stay at ease" You tell her, and stand as if on guard duty, listening to the updates Lilac and Indigo team send your way. Presently, there are no snags in either of their missions. Lilac has gotten their VIPs to a secure location and are providing overwatch, and after Indigo realized the Red Beards had a few of their members disguised in CMA uniforms they had foiled any attempt to use that to their advantage as, they simply did not have the neural interfaces that marked them as friendly on their Armor's Friend or foe indicator. It was a trick that could've worked on marines or even less attentive ODST, but against Spartans? it was doomed to fail.
But that didn't mean they didn't have any other surprise up their sleeves. So you had to stay combat ready, and prepared to leap into the fray to help your brothers and sisters in cutting the Einherjar's Red Beard once and for all.
The ETA for the prisoner pick up was still a few minutes away. A lot could happen in a few minutes.

>>6301660 >perhaps Sven should write down a theoretical new military unit : see about applying and playing with some of the Einherjar training and indoctrination for create something. I'm thinking of a specialized light infantry unit in direct contrast to the ODST. Less shock and awe, more cloak and dagger. Hell, maybe even purpose built to act as support or in-tandem with Spartans.
Imagine they were inspired by our own playbook; experts in just about everything needed to stay adaptable, but primarily focused on stealth operations and asymmetric warfare. Proper boogiemen.
As for taking inspiration from the Einherjar, we might think about issuing combat stims to this hypothetical unit. Obviously we'd use a much more stable compound and encourage their use sparingly, but you can't deny the efficacy of such a thing in close quarters.
Another thing to look into might be SPI armor, even if that sort of thing is a ways away right now. I think it would compliment the skillset I proposed above AND serve to further distinguish them from ODSTs in culture, image, and mission.
Maybe we could call them Spartiates or Drengir or something.

>>6301679 I am thinking about something directly inspired due to the effectiveness shown by Einherjar units against UNSC ones, be CMA garrisons, Police, Marines, Soldiers, and even ODSTs (and the Red Beards are not dying easily to Spartans as we have seen). And combat stims/combat drugs are, I think, just a part of it. Their training and indoctrination are the clear major parts that made the difference. I don't think it is a good idea to combine my idea and yours, and combat stims would not add much to the unit you are describing. The combination could work poorly, in fact, and what I have in mind would not help their stealth; they work better as separate ideas. Having any of the liquids made in the BERSEKER project would end poorly for the unit you have in mind, trust me.
>SPI armor Could be costly and not something I would consider for the unit you are proposing. Not if you want to make it in any decent numbers. A new body armor, probably a combination of what ONI Field Agents use and ODST armor, could probably suit them instead, and it wouldn't be too costly, allowing for larger numbers of them to be made. What i am thinking instead would be probably heavy combat body armor, so drugs would be needed.
Keep it with you still, it might be an idea to propose in the future. High Command might listen to us; we are giving them good reasons to do so. As of now, while I had this other idea in mind, I remain mostly laser-focused on the heavy robotic-cybernetics augmentation third path for Washouts, finding another way to rehabilitate them for war (in case what its being done now doesn't work). And I want Soren to be the first one (if he volunteers).

>>6301702 True, maybe combat stims wouldn't be a good idea for a dedicated stealth unit.
Anyways, I have to wonder if the Einherjar's track record against UNSC forces is the result of UNSC being relatively undertrained as opposed to the Einherjar being objectively superior. Remember, there hasn't been a war for quite a while till now, and it's hard to keep combat readiness up during extended periods of peace time.
It's a little early in the war to tell, but I can imagine as time goes on, UNSC personnel across the board are going to get a LOT more competent and experienced. Those that survive anyways.

>>6301826 The resistance that was done for avoid her capture is too high for not be her. Still if she isn't, she is likely either in that stealth ship or in a building of her native ally here in Black Sands (Not even the Einherjar could just walk here in Black Sands and do all of this so easily, you need locals helping you). There is an easy way to verify this with a write in right now :
>>6301663 >Write-in >Answer your concerns and doubts with taking action now. Control the face and body of Ingrid for verify signs of plastic surgery, then take a blood sample and see if it can be verified with the medical gear Shika has with her with your own blood sample. Also have her body scanned be for trackers, cybernetics, bombs or anything else that isn't organic. The other Einherjar captured should be also controlled and scanned And if she isn't in Black Sands, she is at home. Even so we have massive victory, just by the UEG/UNSC showing the evidence of Einherjar being here for an attempted terroristic attack and the use of a nuke.

>>6301663 >Ask Illya her thoughts of the Svartalfar/ Elites, as she is one of the few spartans who've fought against them so far. If this really isn’t Biomom, that’s a surprise I’m willing to let 404 have. Not only because we’re crippling the Einherjar with this mission, but also I just don’t think Sven would be in his own head about this yet considering he’s still in combat ready mode to help his fellow Spartans if they need it.

>>6301928 I would prefer that a surprise doesn't explode in our face instead ruining the mission that we have done well so far. Especially when 404 gives us room for Sven to realize possible subterfuges like this. He is a smart cookie.

>>6302036 Meh, failure is apart of growing as a character. And if this is our first “Big mistake that blows up in our face” I wouldn’t mind it. Worst case scenario is that Biomom gets away with SUBSTANTIALLY less resources than what she once had, meaning she’ll probably hold up on her home planet for the time being. This is again assuming the woman we grabbed is indeed not our target. Also while we all know Sven is a smart cookie, I don’t know if he’d be in his own head about it this hard after just doing the mission. When he decides to sit down and do his mission report? Sure I could see it. But now? After having done accomplished this mission with damn near perfect results? I’m of the opinion he’d much rather be talking to his fellow Spartans. But that’s just my own thoughts on his character.

6 Votes to ask Illya her thoughts on the Elites/ Svartalfar
2 Votes to hear feedback on the armor personalization you gifted the other spartans
1 Vote to scout around the LZ's perimeter/ take a walk to clear your head
2 Votes to be a bit paranoid and check to see if the Target is actually your mother/ Ingrid Askeland, just to be certain you aren't being hoodwinked and that she is the real deal.
Alright, so you'll talk shop with Illya concerning the Covenant Elite caste/ species, and hear her thoughts/ observations as one of the handful of spartans who've fought them so far into the war
