"What can you tell us about these accursed woods, Robin?" You cross your arms, a smirk playing at the corners of your lips knowing the insect has to play along with your little act. "You're from these woods, are you not?"
"Hmph. Well.." Robin sighs, sitting back in the air and kicking her legs back up. "Broceliande Forest is just as any other wood at night. You might even call it beautiful, the way shafts of light fall across the forest bed and flowers sprout up along the roots of trees. You can pass by it with ease, so long as you dodge the occasional out of the way monster. The problem is when night falls. That's when the forest changes."
"Changes?" Marilia echoes. "So.. it's changing now, with us standing here in it..?"
"It grows. What makes for a little copse in the day becomes this sprawling labyrinth in the night, cliffs climbing into the sky making for plunging drops, trees angling up to claw at the moon.. it's like it becomes it's own little world. I hear time even distorts a little. Not in the measure of years, sure, but what could come across as three hours here might just be twenty minutes out there." The fairy grimaces. "And don't get me started on the monsters.."
"Like yourself." You mutter beneath your breath.
"I hear that out in the world proper, monsters are ruled by a fearsome vampire queen. Not here." The fairy eyes you. "Not many monsters can even really claim to have seen it, but all here know it rules them. The BEAST of Broceliande. The greatest, strongest of monsters, above even that vampire queen. It's here building power--and when it grows strong enough, it's clawing it's way out of these woods and going for the throat of the world outside."
"If they haven't seen it, how exactly do they know how it rules over them? Can we even be sure this thing is real?" You raise a brow. You're still not sure you buy it yourself.
"Maybe some don't buy into it. But credible rumors about sightings and killings are enough to make it real for most." Robin shrugs her shoulders. "That said.. you can't deny everything. I hear the BEAST has begun to make plays at the outside world. Swiping at humans. Testing the waters. Taking the sick, the old, the young out here to devour them whole. And it's going to keep testing that line until it steps right over it."
