1244, La Forbie. The hot winds swept across the sands. The last drop of strength left your body. Yet, you held on to your sword. The lumps around your face burned inside your helmet. Beside you were your brothers in arms, finally fallen after many years of suffering. Soon, you will die too, and the ordeals you've faced will be over. You look at your left arm across from you, resting on the ground. The world has yet to darken. You did not see the gate of heaven yet. Death certainly came at his own leisure it seems… Then you saw it. A world swept by hellfire. Demons and soldiers of darkness invading the lands, spreading indiscriminate savagery. Amidst the black army, there was the king. A tall figure draped in dark cloak and clad in black steel, riding a black horse, wielding a mace crackling with blue sparks. The world swallowed by darkness, ruled with fear and heresy. The vision ended, and a burning bush appeared. “Your work is far from over, stand up. Protect the innocents and nurse the ill as you have done before. Rise,”>Rainier, Knight of Saint Lazarus >Thomas, Knight of Saint Lazarus >William, Knight of Saint Lazarus When you opened your eyes again, you woke up on a bed of soft green grass. The smell of trees and faintly sweet fruit. This… This can not be Heaven. Not after what you saw. The voice, the burning bush, if what you saw was real, your work was not over. “Stay away damn you!” You followed the panicked voices. Like your visions, men clad in black armor with tar skin chased a small family. You sprung into action and let out a bellowing war cry. These sickly creatures turned their attention to you. Good, the family can get away. You reached for your weapon, a>A longsword (two-handed) >An arming sword and a shield >A battleaxe (two-handed) >A mace and a shield This quest will only last until 10/3 but I plan to update daily!

If you died here, so be it, God will choose another worthy servant. The grip on your sword and shield shook, fatigue pulled your body down like shackles, and sweat stung your eyes. "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." A long exhale escaped from your lips. “Have at thee, hellspawn!” The demons roared. The black wave crashed into you. A spear from the side pierced through your plate armor and chainmail. At the same time, a giant mace struck your shield, sending you on the floor. You stand back up. “Back to hell, hellspawn!” Your breath shuddered. For that brave sentence. Your knees buckle. The demons ran forth, but light beams pierced through the demons. Within seconds, they all fell. “You heard that? So gallant.” Your visions darkened. The tension and fatigue that built up crashed into you, making you fall to your knees. Voices spoke but you could not see them. “He has the scent of the old god.” One girl said. “Eugh.” “But he has a pure heart.” Another voice said. “Humans are so amusing, aren’t they?” “A flame so wild, but quick to dim,” The third voice said. “But this flame has a greater purpose. Let us take him.” Your eyes closed, and your mind wandered in the darkness. Your eyes opened. A quaint scent of spice and dirt soothed your mind, and your body was above a soft cushion. This… Where was this place? >It didn’t matter, there was the door, you needed to find someone >You saw a… Mass of congealed meat jelly slithering across the room, like those you saw in lavish feasts >You saw a small human with wings for arms, no bigger than your finger, eating a berry

Her fangs sank deep into the flesh and tore the soft body like a beast. You rubbed your eyes, and the small human still existed. You took a step closer, and the small human finally looked up at you. “Hey you, you’re finally awake.” “Yes… I am.” You said, still unsure what to do. “Where am I?” “You’re in my friend’s cabin.” “And that is in?” She rolled her black eyes and red pupils, devoid of any white. “You’re in Cridhe Kall, the fey realm. Klem and Mekl found you on the verge of death and saved you.” The last moment suddenly flashed back, yes, you were facing those demons to ensure the caravans and the refugees were safe. “What happened to them? Are they safe?” The small woman shrugged. “I dunno, probably. I’m here to watch over the house before they come back.” You looked around the home. Orbs of light floated around the room. The wooden floor’s warmth heated your foot pleasantly, and the general warmth of the home hugged you. Comfort, you forgot the last time you could relax. “Where are my weapons and armor?” “I think Klem and Mekl stored it. Can’t have someone foreign have weapons, saving a human is already a risk.” “Then why rescue me?” Muir took another bite and swallowed. “Ask them, like I said, I’m just here to watch over the house. If you're bored, you can go outside, just don't go too far.” >Go outside of the house >Talk with Muir more [write-in] >Write-in [explore the house]

The scent of forest hit you, but with an odd sweetness. The lights glittered like stars in the deeper parts of the forest. Orbs of light floated, and the sound of giggles echoed. Tall trees, tallest and thickest you’ve ever seen, were carved into a home and had wooden bridges that connected to other trees. “That’s the human.” “He looks different.” “The old god’s smell… Iron and fire.” Beings like Muir flew, and women with pointy ears whispered. Some were part trees with thick leaves instead of hair. You rubbed your eyes, but they remained the same. Men with lower half of a horse and with stone limbs. “Should someone talk to him?” “Where’s Zanzi?” You took another step forward, and the strange folks took a step back. >"Greetings, I am not here to harm you." >You went back inside the cabin, they seem scared of you and it's best not to cause more troubles. >Write-in

They fluttered, jumped back, and some took a curious step forward. You stood where you were, unsure what or who to talk to, like some dog too scared to do anything. What you needed were your sword and shield. Thankfully, they were more curious than intent on killing you. “He can talk!” “Our tongue, but not our kind… Someone has to talk to him. Where’s Klem and Mekl? They found it, they should deal with it!” “Here.” Two folks with pointed ears arrived, appearing identical as if the reflection walked out of the mirror. Both were pale skinned with long flowing blond hair, and their green eyes gazed at you like a mad scholar would. You were not a person, but a thing to be studied. “Look, Mekl. He’s all better now.” “Klem, it’s a human, that’s not particularly a good thing.” “But he did stand alone to defend the innocent.” Mekl, the one on the left, giggled, and God protect you, her voice was lovely. “My ladies, I thank you for saving my life.” You bowed. “He knows gratitude.” “That he does, Klem.” Mekl said. “Even if he is of iron and fire.” >introduce yourself >ask about iron and fire >ask about your weapon

I am thankful for your hospitality, but I must depart.” “To where?” “Eckron, to slay Beelzebub.” Shouts of fear exploded. Mekl and Klem grabbed your arms with a menacing grin. “A name like that should not be said so easily, child of iron.” Klem said. “Indeed, a name is a powerful thing, something that should not be uttered, child of fire.” Mekl said. You walked backward as they pulled you back inside the house. The released you softly, Mekl went inside a room inside the home while Klem sat on a wooden stump. They wore a white gown with long sleeves, with a weaved flower necklace and crowns. Klem stared at you, fluttering her eye lashes with her lips just parted as if she thought about something to say. “You’re not human are you?” Klem said. “I am a human.” “Your flow of mana seems different… Otherworldly.” You avoided her gaze. “Are all of your kind able to perceive this?” “If they look hard enough, they can, but yours is too strange to be one.” “Well I—” “Found it! I hope you don’t mind but your weapons and armor were in poor condition, I had them fixed.” Mekl placed your armor and weapons on the long wooden table, along with your pack. Your armor shined, and your sword gleamed with a new coat of polish. “Thank you, truly, I’m grateful.” You bowed. “There’s something about your mana flow, you’re not a normal human but someone destined for greatness.” Mekl said. “I’m but a servant of god, my lady. That is all I am and what I pray to be.” Klem stretched with a troubling moan. “Well, it’s time you get on to your way, where to?” “You can send me where I want?” “It’s a simple matter.” 1.>“Why did you help me?” >“What’s wrong with my mana flow? Don’t you think so Klem?” Mekl said. “So curious, not like a human.” Klem said. “He even thanked us.” “That he did. Well, I’ll tell you, Rainier.” Mekl came face to face, eyes close and noses on the verge of kissing. Her green eyes lit up, not by the light but the eye itself. Something stirred within you, not fear, but not comfort either. You stood your ground and willed yourself to stare back. Mekl grinned then spun back. “The demons are enemies of all that is good, I will not discriminate against those who will rise to be a hero. Not everyone can be a hero, but a hero can come from anyone.” “Then send me to Mesla, please.” “Sister?” Mekl said. Klem nodded. The two sisters held hands and outstretched their free hand. A green circle appeared below your feet. “Iron and fire, sword and shield, cut and pierce the black plagues of Beelzebub. Ride our wind swiftly. Bring forth the cleansing light with iron and fire.” Green light grew stronger in a brilliant glimmer. Mekl and Klem flanked on your sides, their soft lips kissed your cheeks. >“Here is an ivy, so that fidelity and love can remain ever pure.” >“Here is a holly, to be vibrant and vicious in the wake of cold darkness.” >“Here is a yew, to keep you bright and pure in the maws of blackness.” “Farewell, God’s child. Farewell" Mekl said softly. “March on, God’s child. March on.” Klem said. The light engulfed your vision. “W—What is this?” You opened your eyes, this seemed to be a convent. The women wore the clothes that Sister Emily did so this must be Mesla. A Father stood in front of the sister, while not alarmed he didn’t seem welcoming either. “Father Gregory?” “You know me?” You pulled out the letter from your pack. “Sister Emily sent me. I am Rainier.” Father Gregory approached cautiously, he stretched his arm and grabbed your enveloped with the tip of his fingers. He adjusted his circular glasses then read the letter. “My God… We all thought you were dead!” >"It is through God's grace that I lived." >"The people of fey saved me." >Write-in

Good God, you are not lying.” “Is it rare to gain their assistance?” Father Gregory’s mouth dropped like a gate. “Rare? Good man, the fey are illusive creatures who has not intervened since the Second Blacktide.” You harrumphed, not wanting to further offend or confuse Fatehr Gregory. “Sister Emily told me you can help me in my mission.” “Yes… You mission in Mesla. To my office, please.” Much like the priests in Jerusalem, Father Gregory’s office was lavish. Carpets, bookshelves, a table made of polished wood, and glass windows, bloated elegance oozed like a popped puss. Yet, Father Gregory did not appear as a greedy man. Father Gregory parted the rolled up map on the table . “Mesla will take a week to travel by horse. Several scouts are missing and one has been driven to madness.” Father Gregory said grimly. “If what Sister Emily said is true, you may be our only hope, unlike… No, forget what I said. This map is yours to keep.” “What did the scout say?” Father Gregory shook his head regretfully. “God rest his soul, all he does is mutter about some apocalypse, he might as well be right… This church is your home, Sir Rainier, as is anyone who is a soldier of Kristos.” “Has a trader by the name of Homan come to Mesla?” Father Gregory rubbed his chin in ponderance then shook his head. “I’m afraid not. If you do want to find out, I suggest you head to the Merchant Guild. Though there were a group of adventurers asking by your name as well.” “I see, thank you, Father.” “I’ll have something prepared for your journey so you can leave tomorrow. Mechrant dressed in fine silk and leather shoes. A polished chandelier lit the wooden interior in a warm amber light. You sabatons and chainmail made a chink in every step. “Welcome to the Merchant Guild, how can I help you?” “I escorted a merchant and I heard he’s back in Mesla. I am not seeking payment but only his well being. His name is Homan.” “mR.Homan has been in Mesla for a week then left. May I ask for your name?” “I am Rainier, of the Order of Saint Lazarus.” The receptionist left the receptionist line and to the door behind her. She placed a bag of coins. “Mr.Homan wanted to give you this.” “That’s more than we agreed to…” “He said the additional pay is for your bravery.” The receptionist said. “I see.” You took the bag. You spend the night in the church and the next day, you stepped outside the church to begin your journey to Eckron. Outside were men in white armor with gold accents. They lowered their heads and placed their fist over their heart. “We are the Silver Paladins, ordered by His Holiness to accompany you, Sir Rainier.” “I’m honored to be accompanied.” With new equipments, a pack full of survival goods, and renewed body, you headed for Eckron.
