The path Erna'd initially been looking down...
Huh. It seemed brighter than the others. Maybe that was the one?
You nudged your partner's shoulder and headed towards the first path the pair of you'd seen. You could hear her following suit soon after.
The first path was mostly uneventful. It gave you just enough of a reprieve to start thinking again after whatever you'd done back there. It looked like a Psychic attack, and it worked similarly enough to an attack... you could chalk it up to that for now.
A glance to the sky distracted your mind. It was looking a little less grey than it had before, though there was an unease to how the clouds formed. It almost seemed like they were fighting at points- sometimes one cloud would suddenly overtake another, or the two would merge in what seemed like a haphazard battle for dominance, like they were alive. Small specks of them almost seemed to battle each other, and if you listened closely a distant squawk or chirp could occasionally be made out.
...
"...Erna, are the clouds here supposed to squawk?"
Your partner stopped in place and turned back to see you looking at her with an outright poker face. Her expression was unreadable for a moment, before she remembered. "Right- you've forgotten a lot, haven't you? Those are Swablu, little birds that look like clouds! Then they grow up, and they look like even bigger birds and even bigger clouds. That's probably a flock of them that you're seein'."
She picked up the pace right after, now skipping, until-
"HEY!"
That voice didn't belong to either of you. And a quick pan around the area made sure nobody here was making that sound.
Erna's ears sprung open. "I recognize that voice! Indie, come on!!"
The two of you hurried down the stairs...
-
Once the two of you made it down the steps, you were both greeted with a rather awful sight. A huge rat held a fat-looking fighter in its claws!
Something told you that whatever the mon was, it wasn't supposed to be that big. Its eyes probably weren't supposed to be bloodshot, either.
Erna seemed tempted to agree. "Wha..."
The fighter flailed and flailed. His voice sounded desperate. "L-let me go!! Come on, I didn't even do anything t-to you!"
...was he crying?
Your partner stepped forward and assumed a fighting position, seemingly ignoring her hair standing on end, yelling down the rat like it was nothing. "Hey, stupid!! Listen to him and let him go, or I'll kick your teeth in!!"
That got its attention...
What should you do?
>Assume a fighting stance, but don't do anything just yet.
>Back Erna up and yell!
>Jump right to the "kicking your teeth in" part and try to pull an attack off.
>Write-in.
