After accepting the invite, the two of you are whisked away to an instance where for the first time in ten years you’re virtually in the presence of your old friend.
You begin your session of “Heck Moon Hayride”. The signs tell you to <span class="mu-b">’have ranged weapon to trigger unreachable switches!’</span> so you put Toilet Paper in your off hand leaving your primary as the Basic Ball Bat. The ‘hayride’ is atop a piece of geometry meant to vaguely resemble a wagon, and using an exploit the scenery around the ‘trailer’ is pushed in one direction giving the illusion of movement. It’s rather clever, and although it looks and feels somewhat broken, it’s entirely playable. Your ride is constantly assailed by enemies, and at points you’re even given the option to choose alternate paths for the wagon to take.
By the end, you have one question…
“How is this not better than my HHs???”
<span class="mu-b">"omg"</span>
<span class="mu-b">”well like YEAH its a lotta work”</span>
<span class="mu-b">”but they got the idea from you”</span>
“I never made any hayrides”
<span class="mu-b">”the end of Backwards Mansion??”</span>
<span class="mu-b">”when the candy coroner moonwalks out of the level”</span>
<span class="mu-b">”you found the exploit that made this WHOLE thing”</span>
“He was supposed to open the door for you!”
<span class="mu-b">”SO much better with the moonwalking”</span>
“I cried when I found that in the published version.”
<span class="mu-b">”you cried? rly?”</span>
“Well yeah it was broken”
<span class="mu-b">”omg u need to chill”</span>
“I was twelve!”
It’s alluring to put the past behind you, and simply pretend it’s not following.
Somehow those same expectations and emotions have followed you into adulthood. It’s not exactly the same but much like your exploit, that old logic is still the undercurrent behind so much of your being. In your mind a mistake is a stain and nothing can get rid of it, not even a modest amount of alcohol. You desperately want to turn your moonwalking into a hayride, but your way of being isn’t nearly as quirky or amusing.
<span class="mu-b">”wanna join some of my other friends? We can play some together?”</span>
You’ve got <span class="mu-s">responsibilities</span> tomorrow, and it’s already quite late. The voice inside expects you to be an adult about this, but the call of the treats urges you to call out of work and burn the night away.
