Matt looked like he had something to say, but he simply followed behind the vigilante and jumped from the roof. You and Louise were right behind them, you firing a webline, and her spreading her arms to let the wind catch in her newly modified cape.
None of you waited for Terminal, knowing full well that if he wanted to catch up, he would find a way.
—------
Over the next few hours, you and the others struggled to drive the Silvertongue away from highly populated areas without having her detect your presence. You tried to keep it to a minimum, since having her spot you before you had a chance to spring your trap would ruin the entire plan.
Fortunately, it would seem that Terminal’s efforts had at least affected the Silvertongue’s mental state, as she sought locations that offered her more cover in her day to day commute. More than anything, you were surprised by the sheer amount of walking that this woman was doing in one day. It was like tailing an overeager tourist with a limitless amount of energy.
Finally, she reached an area with minimal foot traffic, and decent cover. The sun was beginning to set over the horizon, and the others were starting to get antsy.
“She has placed a ward on herself.” blurted Moon Knight.
Everyone turned to stare at him.
“Pardon?” Louise asked.
“Khonshu tells me that she is surrounded by a magical barrier. It must be broken before we can attack her.” he explained.
“And how would we go about doing that?” Matt said.
“Brute force would be preferable.” he replied. “Hit her fast, and hit her hard.”
You nodded and placed a hand to your ear. “Terminal, do you think you could fire off a few shots at our target?” you asked.
“Weren’t we trying to take her alive?” he inquired, sounding perplexed.
“We are, but she’s got a magic barrier surrounding her. I want to see how well it holds up against that gun of yours. If it doesn’t work, then we’ll just have to improvise from there.”
There was silence on the other end of the line for a few moments, and when Terminal spoke again, his voice was low and serious.
“Got her in my sights. Just give the word.” he confirmed.
You glanced around at everyone else, knowing that they had grasped the situation from the bits and pieces of your conversation. They all looked as ready as they’d ever be.
“Take the shot.”
A crack, a flash of light, and a shattering sound were the only sensations that mattered in that moment. The Silvertongue fell over, and for a brief second, you could see a faint, pale outline surrounding her body. The shot had failed to kill, or even wound her, but the force of it was enough to knock her off her ass.
The four of you exploded into motion, pouncing like a tiger lying in wait for its prey. You and Matt were on the ground first, with Moon Knight and Louise still gliding down from above.
