Your eyes shoot open, and you are greeted with a great pain in your head. The shrine maiden is giving everything she has to pull you out of the water and onto a small island. Debris off all kind has gathered together into a small dam against the rising water, and the two of you have simply added to it. There is a great pain in your neck, but at this point every part of your body cries out. Slowly you crane your head to take in where you are, and perhaps remember where you are. The blow you took has disconnected you partially from reality, and it will be a moment until you can remember everything. You touch the back of your head, but cannot tell if it is rain or blood that pours from you.
Your hand senses it, and scurries forward before your eyes can see it. Among the wood and dirt, a sword. It stands erect and proud, gleaming in the dark, as if it had dropped from the very sky itself. The object of your desire, only an arms reach away. It calls to you, and your body moves. It does not need your consent.
"No!" Jakuchō throws her body ontop of yours and holds you tight "Do not take it, you do not need it."
Her words don't make sense, so you ignore her. She may as well tell you to leave behind your leg.
"If you take up this blade, you will carry it to its appointed place."
All the pain in your body is disappearing under the swords warm glow. You have survived for a while without a sword, it is true. This is different, you know that if you do not take up this blade here and now, there will be a heavy price to pay. This knowledge is in your blood, in your bones, in your soul.
