“Hyeny? You okay?” Daitza’s voice interrupts your thoughts. You open your eye and find her face right next to yours. She’s got a curious expression. “You’ve been so quiet. Are you still talking to Hawkodesh or…?”
You shake your head. “Nah, we finished a moment ago. I was just… thinking.”
She puts her hands on her hips, looking somewhat concerned. “He insists on getting you to worship Anu, huh?”
“Yeah. He’s kinda sad we don’t, but it’s one thing to trust and another to worship. I hope he realizes this soon and stops trying to convince me to become an actual follower.”
Daitza looks down at her feet. “I’m… I’m not sure we can trust Anu, let alone worship him. Something is off about him, Hyeny… reeeeally off. He can’t be as good as everyone paints him to be.”
All this doubt coming from her grabs your attention. “I don’t get it. What’s bothering you, exactly?”
“Grrrrrr!" She scratches her head hard and growls while doing it, as if frustrated for some reason. "Can’t you see all the signs?!" She starts counting with her fingers. "His terrible followers. His lack of intervention on stuff that matters, like putting the dwarves in their place in that stupid meeting. His weird demand of love and being a ‘part of the family’… AND the fact the Devils are his sons. His sons, Hyeny! Doesn’t that scream ‘suspicious’ to you?!”
“A bit, I guess? Not to defend Anu or anything, but kids don’t always follow the father’s example, ya know?”
She crosses her arms. “Hmph. I’m not convinced.”
You sigh. “Look, Datz. You bring up plenty of good points, and I’ve got my share of doubts, too… but Anu opposes the Devils. And he's my mom's god. That’s all that should matter to us, I think. He can’t be worse than Gnolrek, can he?”
Daitza doesn’t respond. She looks to the side, her eyes dancing with uncertainty. “Datz… come on. Let's give Anu a chance. Okay?”
She frowns and looks at you again. “Hyeny, I’ve been wondering. Is there any way I can hear what Hawkodesh says when he speaks? Can you ask him if such a thing is possible? I’m curious about the stuff he tells you and… well… how much he’s trying to influence you without my knowledge.”
“Come on now! I’m not so dumb as to let myself be influenced by a talking bird. Errr... no offense, Hawkodesh.”
"None taken" he says. "I'm not a bird anyway. It's merely the form I choose to take."
“This creature is inside you, goofball..." Datz says, tapping your chest. "You can say he's not influencing you all you want, but it's still an inner voice you have to deal with all the time. A stranger's voice. That's why I gotta help you fight back with mine!"
