Booze. Lots and lots of booze. The night collapsed into a self-destructive Bacchanal of broken glass, blurred, mumbling faces, and what felt like hours bracing yourself as you emptied your stomach’s contents over and over into a cornucopia of bar toilets only to fill yourself back up and start the process all over again.
If you concentrate hard enough, you can still feel the dull ache behind your eyes… the soreness in your temples… the scratch in your throat caused by too many close encounters with stomach acid.
The rest of the night is a blur, yes, but despite your best efforts to drown it in your alcohol-induced self-flagellation sesh, you couldn’t wash away your conversation with Liz… and how she mentioned your sister.
She had to mention your goddamned sister...
You jumped, sure, but now you were drowning.
Dylan…
“Yea…” TT mutters, eyes still wide and tail planted firmly on the ground from the bombshell you just dropped on her, “Do you… what happened to her, Ant?”
That’s the best part, you reply with a rueful chuckle and a shake of your head, you… you don’t know. You remember her name, a few random chunks of memories, and a conversation you had on the phone a while back, but…
Your voice catches in the back of your throat.
But that’s it.
A familiar bushy tail gently wraps itself around you as TT ventures closer to your side. “We’ll get there, Ant,” She replies under her breath, “Together.”
You cautiously lean in to your fuzzy friend with trepidation painted all over your face. She’s… she’s okay with…?
“I mean, if it went the way you say it did,” The Durher replies, staring up at you with a dash of uncertainty in her expression, “Honestly, Ant? That probably couldn’t have gone worse. And if it were me, well, I’d never speak to you again.”
Gch!
“Sorry, honesty…” Tzah-Tzie stammers with an apologetic laugh, “But,” shrugs the Spinner after clearing her throat, “For what it’s worth, it was good of you to, well, let her down if you weren’t, y’know…” Her saucer-sized eyes jump between you and the woods. “Taken with her.”
She blinks.
“You… you aren’t... taken with her, right?”
