>>5592300>Rolled 1 (2-1) Unsuccessful, no insight. Her orange, digital features fall and she withdraws nervously.
“P-peedee is s-sowwy.” she sniffs, on the verge of tears all of a sudden, “didn’t m-mean to share s-seeing, but w-was so bright. Friend-Dal said ‘no let Peedee in’, a-an’ Peedee t-try not to, try r-really hard.”
You are stricken by her heartfelt apology, her wildly swinging emotional state washing over you causing your own eyes to water. You did refuse to ‘let her in’ earlier, keenly aware of how much just her emotional state could affect your own and wary of what deepening that connection might mean for your sanity — but it seems like the brief flash of vision you received was yet another step in that direction. You have some mixed feelings about this, but it was apparently an accident and the young intelligence appears to be genuinely upset that she violated her Captain and newly acquired friend’s trust.
“T-too bright!” She begins to wail.
Steeling yourself, you pat her visor hesitantly, attempting to console her. Even the brief contact causes a tingling static jolt along your nerves as her wild emotions spike. You grit your teeth and bear with it, shushing her soothingly. She may be almost as old as your family’s voidship physically but you need to remind yourself she still has the mental and emotional maturity of a child. You need to be a responsible Captain, mentor and friend and make sure you avoid exploiting the poor thing, especially when she appears to be exhausted.
“It’s alright little one, I know you didn’t mean to.” You murmur, a little unsure of what to do. Your mother was always there to comfort your younger biological siblings and Kiro was rarely anything but his perpetually cheerful self.
“I… forgive you?”
“R-really?” She looks up at you with wide hopeful eyes. “You’ll s-still be Pe- my friend?”
You can tell she’s trying to put on a brave face.
“Of course I will.”
“And still bring m-me penuddbudder?” She continues anxiously, gripping at your uniform,
Ah, at last at the heart of the matter.
“Yes, I’ll still bring you your promised peanut butter.” You assure her with a wry smile.
“Eeeee.” She buries her hard visor in your chest in wordless relief and you roll your eyes.
“Now try to stay calm and hidden here and I’ll make sure the birds go boom for you to watch, yes?”
“‘Kay.”
Well and truly out of time you extricate yourself from her clutches, returning to the physical and your expectant crew.
“No dice,” you sigh, “Peedee saw something when we first powered up the TFA but she’stoo drained to help us right now.”
“I’d like to meet this mysterious ‘Pee Dee’ character some time,” your Comms officer replies thoughtfully, “especially if she can see things even our Eyes-of-Night can't.”
“Me too!” Pipes up your Ops officer, “But we need to worry about these torps right now, Cap!”
You make a snap decision.
