The Paladin at the front of the enemy column is no ordinary caravan guard. He somehow managed to keep his composure, even during the midst of an ambush. As you catch him barking orders and trying to bring a sense of stability back to his men, you quickly conclude that he cannot be allowed to live. You descend on your target wordlessly, and Diana and Shelley follow. You’ve fought together with the two girls dozens of times now. Yours is a bond of sisterhood that cannot be easily severed, and they can understand your motivations with nary a word uttered. The Paladin never knows what hits him when you and Diana’s spears cleave through both of his arms. Before his severed limbs even hit the floor, Shelley’s Wo Dao carves neatly through his neck. Literally and metaphorically, the head of the caravan guards has been severed. The dreaded Triangle Attack claims another victim.
>20xp gained! (20/100)Some of the nearby enemy soldiers witness their leader’s quick demise, and an even worse panic begins to set in amongst those present.
“C-captain!”
“It’s the Blackwings! It’s the Witch!”
“N-no!”
Your reputation precedes you; it seems. A few of the soldiers retreat away from you, into the waiting talons of Ava and her pegasus knights, who fall on the enemy like vultures. Two heavily armored but slow Great Knights lurch their way towards you. The first hulking cavalier raises an axe on high as he approaches. The attack is laughably slow. So slow, you wonder why he’d even bother. Did he think it worth throwing his life away for this merchant? Or was he acting simply out of reaction and fear? Either way, you dodge the attack, before immolating the man with two successive fireballs that hit their mark. Rider and steed shriek in agony, before collapsing to the ground.
>10xp gained! (30/100)The second rider slows his approach, gawking at the charred remains of his comrade. It’s too late for him to revert his course though. Shelley’s Wo Dao blocks the attack. The steel wickedly sharp, in just two swipes it manages to sever the man’s hand right at the wrist as he passes by. He screams briefly, before an arrow from Caleb catches him in the throat.
Taking back to the sky, you survey the battlefield. The enemy is badly battered, but you note a few soldiers and horsemen in the back have grouped up and are about to engage your infantry in melee. Directly in front of you, two mages and armored soldiers are taking cover between the first two caravans, facing your direction. If those mages know any wind magic, they may be able to seriously harm you and your two wings.
The merchant is still nowhere to be seen.
