On a faraway world, humanity is thriving. Across the surface of this planet, thousands of tribes have been born and strive to become something greater – a true civilisation. They struggle with one another for this privilege, for the opportunity to leave their mark on the world for evermore.

We are following one of these tribes, who call themselves the Protavic – the beast-bringers, in their own tongue.

They belong to the Scavic, a race of people with soft faces, fair hair and blue-grey skin. Like the rest of their kind, they inhabit the Grascan, a vast oceanic forest filled with dangerous beasts and towering trees.
The Protavic people have settled by the Croglatol, a great freshwater lake. The forest thins out along its shore, which allows the native tribes to prosper without fear of predation.

Traditional beast-bringers are now in the minority. They are sedentary pastoralists, who rear swine and tend to hives of honey bees along the shore of the Croglatol. They worship An, the Allmother and the source of the divine energy that flows through all living things, Drocrom. They prize intelligence and cunning above all else and though they view their tribe as supreme, they prefer to subjugate other tribes through commerce rather than violence.

The Anamilivic, also known as the children, make up the majority of the tribe. They are the distant descendants of the Vuvovic who were integrated into the Protavic tribe. Though they enjoy an identical lifestyle to traditional beast-bringers, they also practice ritual scarification and the ceremonial drinking of blood. In addition to the Allmother, they worship Il, the Great Father, the son and lover of An. He is the strength to her wisdom.

There are also those Vuvovic who were allowed to serve the Protavic tribe as a warrior caste. These blood-drinkers lead lives free from labour but serve as the tribe's soldiers. They serve as the vanguard during times of war and during times of peace, they catch slaves, guard caravans and protect the tribe's borders. Though most of them are Anamilivic, a small group of blood-drinkers are still diehard Vuvovic traditionalists.

Some of the tribe's eccentricities deserve to be mentioned.
Though the majority of the Protavic's sustenance comes from the pigs that they have domesticated, bees and their honey have far more cultural significance. Butol is a sacred form of mead drunk during ceremonies and festivals, while beeswax is used to produce all sorts of artefacts of cultural and religious importance.
The beast-bringers' fixation with intelligence has led them to develop many methods of testing their wits, to ensure that only the wisest are allowed to lead their tribe. These include an abstract board game called Blocrum and a complicated written language known as Protadrol, which the Protavic's elite are expected to excel at.

Got a hankering to revive a civ that I was running last year, though I don't know if there's still an audience for it.
It was about the Protavic, a copper age tribe of blue-skinned pastoralists who lived by the edge of a great lake, with a culture that revolved around feasting, trading, intellectualism and xenophobia, with a warrior caste of blood-drinking maniacs.

Most of the beast-bringers are sedentary pastoralists, who rear herds of swine along the shore of the Croglatol. They earned their name thanks to their tradition of exchanging their livestick with each other and with other tribes, typically for the purpose of diplomacy and commerce.
The Protavic are also fond of honey bees and tend to many hives across their land. They revere the industrious and dutiful nature of the humble bee and they make great use of the goods that these insects produce – honey, beeswax and butol, a primitive form of mead.

Over time, the beast-bringers have developed religious beliefs that revolve around the sacred cycle of consumption – the idea that all living things harbour a mystical energy called Drocrom that is transferred through the acts of breeding and eating.
The source of this essence is An the Allmother, a fertility and harvest goddess who serves as the personification of the planet itself. She is served by faithful priestesses known drobac, who are responsible for the production of butol and the health of the tribe.

The Protavic people are best described as gregarious xenophobes. Centuries of attacking other tribes and assimilating them has led to them viewing their own culture as supreme, yet they gladly trade with other clans for goods and resources that they would otherwise lack.
This pragmatic behaviour is common throughout the society of the beast-bringers. They prize intelligence and constantly test it with riddles, rebuses and a primitive board game called Blocrum, which is used to assess the worthiness of their leaders.

Yet there is one tribe that the Protavic have allowed to join them, instead of outright assimilating. The Vuvovic now serve as the blood-drinking warrior caste of the beast-bringers, who serve the tribe as soldiers in exchange for liberty from labour.
There are also the other clans that surround the Croglatol – the boatmen of the Toprocravic, the Scagravic tree-dwellers, the Drocravic and Bodravic fire-worshippers and the stone men of the Rodac.

With every generation that has passed, their primitive tools have become more sophisticated and their understanding of the land has grown. There can be no doubt that the period known as prehistory is coming to an end.

We shall follow the progress of one out of six races, though there are others that are also on the verge of entering the Neolithic.

The Nehiri have oily olive skin, bulbous facial features and extremely dense black hair. They can be found along the banks of one of the greatest rivers in the world, from its glacial headwater down to its subtropical delta.

The hairless Haduli have sharp and angular faces, rust red skin and tall bodies. They can be found in a high altitude region that is arid and inhospitable, aside from the many lakes scattered throughout the rocky plateau.

The Scavic have hair that is straight and fair, soft faces and slate blue skin. They can be found in a vast and damp forest with cool summers and mild winters, full of dangerous predators and the tallest trees in the world.

The hairless Kanakai have bloody red skin, slender bodies and wide faces. They can be found throughout an archipelago of a thousand islands, where the climate is decidedly tropical and natural disasters commonly occur.

The Watuki have dark brown skin, flat faces and springy black hair. They can be found on a land bridge between two continents, whether the weather is tropical and the landscape varies dramatically, from desert to wetland.

The hairless Urlan have flabby and porous pink skin, as well as short yet sturdy bodies. They can be found along a mountainous coastline, where they inhabit the many fjords carved into the landscape by ancient glaciers.
