I guess it's just me nitpicking personal preference when it comes to certain descriptors and the immersion to the type of weapon. Things like "The astartes fired off a shot that rang through the air and blew the enemies head off in a splinter of gore" sound a bit like the description of kinetics even if its meant to be a volkite. "Shot" "Bang" "Blown" "Ring" these are the sounds of kinetic munitions.
"The Astartes fired a beam of invisible heat that cackled the air, the enemies head burst from superheated brain matter". Words like "Ray" "Burn" "Melt" "Incinerate" etc. make me smile. I think that's what makes the Volkite such a distinct weapon compared to the bolter.
Even the Orks like em: "ZZAP!! guns" "Beamy Deffuns" "Shokka Pistols".
Kinda like when you fire at someone with a flamer, you don't wanna just hit em and kill em. You wanna watch em light on fire and dance the burning man dance!
In any case, its understandable. Why waste a full charged shot on some kiddo alien punks in a building you're going to burn anyway? That was probably just an astartes having a bit of fun
