Shortly after meeting with Starwind you were called to have another meeting with his Chief Engineer; a certain Sally Pulsar.
“So you’ve talked with Starwind right?”
“I have…”
“And what did he ask for?”
“His instructions were infuriatingly vague, though there were a lot of them. We’ll probably end up creating some over-engineered monstrosity trying to build something he likes.”
Sally sighed.
“Thought so. Gal’s a sweet guy but he’s got this childish obsession with big things; big ships, big guns… big boobs,” she muttered self consciously crossing her arms over her meagre chest.
“I imagine such problems are no obstacle for a woman of your intellect.”
“Ehh… not really, but let me tell you: Maintaining the Großschwert was a pain in the ass. It was bad enough that it was this old pork-barrel project for a dead empire, but combine that with these weird bolted on xeno-tech drives and that jury rigged Raihan particle cannon you gave him; I was constantly replacing power conduits.”
You nodded sympathetically and thanked the Empress that Jack, for all his eccentricities, was not as bad as Starwind.
“So what are you suggesting?”
“I think it’s time my Hero learned to appreciate something more compact and efficient,” said Sally, as she tossed her hair, subconsciously emphasising her petite frame.
“You said it yourself; the man's tastes are incredibly… crude.”
“Starwind will be amenable to a light cruiser as long as it can launch strikecraft and has a suitably impressive special feature. If you pull that one off, you can scrimp on everything else: point defence, secondary weapons… just make sure she has a durable skeleton; I’ll be living in it after all.”
You were sympathetic to Sally’s plight, but there was still one outstanding issue.
“Miss Pulsar, I understand your concerns, but at the end of the day Starwind is the client and it is in my interest to sell him the biggest, most expensive hull my engineers can build.”
“Well, if you manage to sell him on a smaller ship; I’ll give you some very useful tech…”
>If you can come up with a design that pleases BOTH Sally and Starwind, you will gain the Inertial Dampeners tech on top of your regular payment.
