Other than W, you were the only other person who didn’t get the phone as often as the other two. You tried not to take it too personally, since Callisto could learn far more from the other two than she could from you. Iara, the brain-damaged friend in question, was fully capable of speech and reason, allowing her to self-diagnose and share some of her more recent introspective thoughts.
And Glass was very familiar with the cause of her plight, the Brood. According to him, the X-Men had a long-standing rivalry with the alien insects. And after only one encounter, you found it hard to find anything but hatred in your heart when you thought of them.
Finally, the phone returned to you, and Callisto had calmed down considerably compared to what you overheard from where you stood.
<span class="mu-g">“Right. So, let me get this straight. Iara caught a mind-eating virus from the Brood, and your way of solving that was by having some wacked out scientists give her a cyborg body.”</span>
<span class="mu-r">“It’s a bit of an overgeneralization, but uh…yeah, that pretty much sums it up.”</span>
Callisto let out a long, weary sigh. And when she next spoke, it was without the fury that you fully expected to be in her voice.
<span class="mu-g">“Have you tried getting a telepath?”</span>
You pulled the phone away from your ear and stared at it for a second.
<span class="mu-r">“A telepath?”</span>
<span class="mu-g">“Yeah, for her memory issues. They’re still in there, so that means that the old Iara must still be in there somewhere. I know a few up at Xavier’s place, including the professor himself. I think it might be worth a shot.”</span>
