>>5347537Corrine shrugs. “Romantic companionship is hard to come across when you’re constantly marching across battlefields. Well, at least the permanent kind that you seem to be looking for. And don’t even think about falling for one of your subordinates. Not while you’re paying them, at least.” She takes a puff of the pipe in front of you, the aroma of burning leaves wafting out. “You may just have to wait until the war is over.”
“Well then we’re doomed.” Shelly says.
Corrine Weaver. At least that’s what she went by now, preferring to pass off as your sister. In all the years you’d known her, she’d gone from being someone you couldn’t stand the sight of, to your closest friend and confidant. It was fitting she was going by your last name, as she was now the closest thing to family you had. Corrine was the Lieutenant of the Blackwings. A fellow graduate of Garreg Mach, she had all the necessary leadership skills to compliment your own. The men often followed her commands as though she were an extension of your own will.
“What about you, Lieutenant? Who’s your type?” Diana asks.
“Why it’s Blair, of course!” Corrine says, ringing her arm through your own. A habit she’d kept up all these years. “I love her so much! But if that doesn’t count…I always thought that Lysithea girl was a real cutie too.”
>“I believe we may be veering too far off our original subject.” You say, wishing to get away from this conversation as quickly as possible.“You have no one to blame but yourself.” Shelley says. “But, shifting priorities back to where we were, Corrine and I were discussing our plan of action for dealing with this “Echeverria” character and his men.”
Ahh, that’s right. The whole reason you were in Siward, currently sitting in this dump of a tavern of which you were the only patrons. That last part wasn’t new. The regulars bolted out the door when they’d seen your insignia. So much for keeping a low profile.
“Shelley here, in all her usual fire and brimstone, believes that we should attack Echeverria’s caravan while they’re on the move, and wholesale slaughter everyone we come across.” Corrine says.
>“And…you disagree?” You blink. Corrine was never one to shy away from wholesale slaughter.“Only a little. I believe we should prioritize capturing Echeverria alive and interrogate him for all he’s worth.”
“Why bother?” Shelley asks. “It brings undue risk towards our soldiers. ‘His Royal Highness’ didn’t specify whether we bring that man in dead or alive. He’s a skilled mage. If we mess this up, there’s a good chance he’ll get away. What information could he possible share with us anyway? The location of some secret cache of gold?”
“That would be pretty cool.” Diana interjects.
