Though the Galactic Empire is the hegemonic power of the galaxy it is not as secure in its power as one might think. Although it has squashed various lesser rebellions over the years the Rebel Alliance, more formally known as the Alliance to Restore the Republic has been performing a series of hit-and-hype attacks on various weak points in the Empire territories. Though it has not yet been able to score a major victory since its founding.
<span class="mu-s">The Galactic Empire</span>
The Galactic Empire is the successor state to the Galactic Republic, founded when the Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine thwarted an alleged plot by the legendary Jedi Order to overthrow after three years of conflict with the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Palpatine proclaimed his new empire around the same time as the end of the clone wars and began the process of cleaning up the last remnants of the Confederacy and the nationalities of the large megacorporations that were part of the Confederacy. In the present day the emperor still holds court on the old capital of Coruscant assisted by the rechristened imperial senate and the imperial ruling council.
