“The Russ were one of many tribes to have walked the Russ Steppes, fighting and pilliging for what little mead they all had. The only way to get your mead was to take it from another, who also took it from another. Even during the Springs and Summers those of the Russ steppes would be covered in snow.”
Another picked up where it was left, “But they did not mind those within the valley, for what they lacked in mead they made up for in strength in flesh. Without a roof over their heads their bodies had become closer to the wolf than any other human could have had.”
“It was then thought that they were invaded by the Trolls of the far north. Creatures who stood three men tall and were tainted by foul magic.” the Wolfman pointed at a symbol, “Here it speaks of it, Troll Slayer.”
As he learned the true meaning behind one of the runes he looked upon it. He did not feel anything from it, neither did the tale give him insight into the Motive Force.
“It was under the first Jarl of the Russ, Leman Russ, who took up arms against the monsters of the north. It was then that the Spirits, knowing his fight was true, blessed him with the first ever everfrost. A time where it had become so cold that any wound inflicted upon them would turn to ice and kill them.”
A laugh came from another of the wolves, “It was the Everfrost that gave the Russ a chance to turn the tides on the Malificarum. To stare down their forces and send them back to the north. That is why this eye is there, so that it may keep an ever watchful eye for their return.”
TalOS looked upon the rune and noticed how it was made. The way they spoke of it made the Primarch think about his knowledge of psychic effects, but ultimately it was not one he was yet aware of. He felt it was odd but TalOS would never truly devote himself to the study of the warp.
“To thank the spirits and acknowledge the Everwinter, The First Jarl Leman Russ asked all the rune priests to create a rune that could describe the frost of that moment where the Spirits blessed us. They fashioned this one you see here.”
TalOS looked upon the rune, which unlike the others was a simple mesh of lines made into a geological shape. It was a straight line that hosted a line at either side of it, making it appear like half of a complete shape.
And somehow, seeing that, TalOS felt his very own bones begin to chill.
“I thank you all for the tale.” TalOS told them as he rose, “You should prepare yourselves. In two days we will be arriving at Lucius.”
And with those words TalOS went back to his study.
