In the sea of crystal, a sole stalagmite speaks to you. Not with words but with the Force. A gentle river using the Force as its current draws you ever closer. It is a wonderful sapphire, worming its way from the floor to your waist. The base flowers into an array of young branches of kyber crystal. You note that two of the limbs end with a flat base. Next to them is an entire unblemished arm. The song in your head grows louder as your eyes lock onto the tip of the gem.
Reaching a hand forward, you demurely stroke the branch, and the gentle song grows into an excitable crescendo. Snapping with the gentle caress, it tumbles into the palm of your hand. Sitting there with a clean crack, bisecting the gem in two halves. One of the fragments is fuller and slightly longer than its miniature brother. With a finger, you slowly trace the edges of both crystals.
Blinking, you break out of the trance. Clasping your hand into a fist, shielding your kyber crystals, while making sure not to hold the twins in a way that could cause any improbable damage to these hardy sapphires. Weaving between sparkling stones, born in ages now muddied by biased books retelling their own versions of the past, you journey to the exit. Reaching the first step leading back to the hall housing mass of Jedi, you turn around to steal one last glance of the Cavern of a Thousand Tears. Etching the view into your mind, one you hope will last you a lifetime. Reluctantly, you scale the steps to re-join your family.
Assistants, usually non-Force wielders, those with much respect for the creed or those that fail to join the Jedi, are frantically wheeling out semi-portable workbenches. The Masters and Knights stand apart from the students, either quietly discussing some matter or watching the teens at work. A rare elder stalks the impromptu workshop, watching an Initiate hard at work, giving the odd student some advice. You flag down one of the temple’s aids for your own bench and begin to copy many of your fellow clanmates.
Sitting down at a bench, you start by opening the many draws. Inside lies a treasure trove of parts and components, many you will not need as they are of simple decorative purpose. In a trance, you begin. While you have studied the construction of Lightsabers both in class and in many free hours, it has always been a complex feat of engineering. The parts never seemed to come together, to paint a complete picture. Now is different. You act without thought, allowing the Force to flow through your crystals and them into your hands. They guide your every step, every placement of an energy cell, and modulation circuit, and energiser. All you need to do is let go and allow the Force to lead you.
