>>5931712It goes down an expected amount, sealing behind you with a chainlink fence style grate before arriving at a thick metal door that could stop everything trying to get through it. Everything, everything except the stench.
The stench down here is vile, and you put on the mask immediately. It didn't quite smell like what was on the street, but Freyja's tits. The mask makes the air you breathe smell more like plastic, a far more agreeable smell.
The door opens.
Ah.
Miasma is an accurate term.
Gargantuan creatures, over ten feet tall and up to a hundred feet long, lie strewn across the wet stormdrain floor, obstructing the flowing of water and sprawling up the pillars. They're all dead, and you consider their potential for being disgusting while alive before you consider to thank the gods for that. Patches of rot and mold and even flora like mushrooms grow on the corpses of these masses of sparse flesh. Portions of their bodies have been feasted upon and harvested by the "local wildlife," offering gaping views into their spilled innards and the rats partaking in them. The storm on the surface brings a surfeit of water, which is enough to work its way around the bodies and flow past. Blood mixes with whatever stormwater makes it past and carries it away to parts unknown.
"How can something grow this big?" You wonder aloud voice muffled through your respirator mask.
Katriina breathes deeply, her voice struggling but overcoming the wretched smell. "One wouldn't ask this question about trees. From our observations, Letiva quite similar to plants. Simply made of flesh. Layers and layers of water, fat, and stored nutrients to supply the vital organs in its center. They rarely grow muscle necessary to move, but when they do, they can be quite dangerous."
Fahy is too stunned to say anything.
Taking the lead, she approaches the graveyard of dead Letiva. "There's two L2 agents posted here. They are perched up in the catwalks, and their job is to maintain visuals and direct their teams. They won't be able to assist in fighting.
