"You good Banks?" You ask him, his eyes refocus and he comes back to reality.
"Haha Yeah it's all okay." He says taking another hasty sip.
"Your date go okay? She didn't turn out to be a secret superhero too did she?" You joke and give him a playful nudge with your elbow. He smiles and you feel the tension break
"No it's nothing like that, it's just work stuff and.." He seems to trail off as he thinks but before you can press he turns to you in a quiet voice.
"Can you keep a secret? Maybe help me out?"
"Of course man, anything you need."
"That's great, Mark. Cause I mean, you just got a way of noticing things so maybe you could help me with this test."
Tutoring isn't what you had in mind but you decide to humor him.
"Depends on the test, if it's math you may find yourself worse than you started."
"No, it's from Gorchakov. He's making Detective soon and one of the duties for a Detective is handler for Undercover, at least for local stuff. He came to me and asked if I wanted to prove myself to him ever since the clown thing I feel like nobody is taking me seriously anymore."
"Ah yeah..I'm sorry about that Banks, I didn't mean to step on your toes."
He waves a hand.
"Nah, better you catch me now than an actual criminal down the road."
You agree and offer your bottle to clink, he accepts.
"What's the move then?"
"Well he has me running exercises, things I may have to do in the field. Last thing I did was snag a file from the records room, file on the Bertinelli family."
"Like Pino?"
He nods with a mouthful of beer.
"Mhmm. The very same, he said the file is pretty much dead so he had it placed securely for me to retrieve. Managed to talk my way in but he said my final test is gonna be after the event."
"What's it looking to be?"
"He wants me to lead a target to some bar near the sea wall. She's one of the Bertinelli's but she's a civilian. She's scheduled to be at Hotel Gotham this friday."
"And she knows about this?"
"Gorchakov said she's in on it, but she was told not to make it easy on me. Said once she gets there he will pop in, take a seat with her and review my performance."
This whole thing seems, wrong. You don't know how Undercover operates exactly but is it really like this?
>"Something about this feels really off, Banks. Are you sure Gorchakov is being straight with you?" >"What's your problem then? You don't think you'll be able to smooth talk her?">"A Civilian Bertinelli? Never heard of her, tell me about her.">"Maybe I could come with you, offer some real time pointers or something?">Write-In
