"Pretty much everyone's an asshole except for the other kids. I mean, you're decent too and I guess Jasper seems pretty okay, but almost every other werewolf I've met has been a total piece of shit. What's up with that?"
"I guess there's a couple of reasons for that." Sheepdog rubs the back of his neck gingerly. "The big one is the enemy that we face. Once you've seen the sort of stuff that the Wyrm is capable of, you start taking the apocalypse a lot more seriously. We all know what's at stake and a lot of us kinda fixate on that. It's easy to stop caring about being nice to people when you really believe that the world's about to end and you're the only one who can stop it. Just wait until you go through your Rite of Passage, you'll see what I mean."
You don't look very convinced, so he continues.
"Second of all, anger's useful to us. That's just a fact. It literally makes us stronger. Hell, some of the Gifts that the spirits grant us need a little bit of rage or they just won't work. That's why a lot of Garou culture involves challenges and humiliation and pissing each other off. We fill each other with fury so we can let it all out when it's time to fight. Without that fire in our hearts, we're not nearly as effective on the battlefield."
"Yeah, I don't think that Harrower slaps us around so that we'll be better fighters," you retort. "I'm pretty sure that she's a sadist, just like Gregor and Has-Shit-For-Brains. You're not though, and I appreciate that. You're doing a lot of shit for my mom's sake and I just wanna let you know I'm grateful."
"Yeah, you're welcome, but think of it from Tilly's perspective. The world's ending and it's her job to get as many soldiers on the battlefield as she can and pray that they'll be enough to turn the tide in our favour. In her eyes, she can't afford to coddle you. She's gotta get you out there fighting the Wyrm as fast as she can, that's her sole purpose in life. If smacking you into submission is the quickest way of getting you to do as you're told, then that's what she's gotta do."
"I guess." You're still not all that convinced.
"I know I didn't understand this shit to start with. I even tried to run away a couple of times but when I went through my Rite, it gave me the perspective I needed. It all made sense after that. You'll get what I mean when the time comes. Until then, is there anything you need from the outside world?"
>Ask if he would be able to smuggle in some basic human luxuries for you.
>You'd appreciate it if he could let your mom know that you're doing okay.
>Talk to him about the tribes you're interested in and get his opinion on it.
>Something made of silver would be nice, just in case you gotta defend yourself.
>Nah, you're good. You don't wanna get greedy or grow too reliant on his charity.
