Lucian thought about it. The two of them had discussed this matter between one another for they knew that the Duke was lacking in manpower. A lot of his Knights after all died in the frist engagement against the Orkish threat and a great many more are licking their wounds from the incursion.
It was to Lucian’s Luck that the Duke was willing to give a boon. He thanked both the Lady and Morr, for surely a god’s intervention was placed upon this occasion.
“My Lord, I have had a discussion with my fellow Wendel Wolfmar. He is a Priest that originates from the Empire, and has told me of a practice that could be use in my investigation.” Lucian told the Duke, “They used Inquisitors, men whose authority was unquestioned when it came to rooting out heresy in their lands. In search for this relic, I will need such authority.”
“I have heard of Inquisitors. I have even dealt with a few of their number when they came across the Grey Mountains in search of their prey.” The Duke said as he strummed his hands on the golden throne, “While I can see the need for such power you know I cannot so quickly give it to someone not of my Court, let alone a Knight Errant.”
There was a small stirring telling Lucian that he already lost his chance. He had to remind himself that this was not the case and reached into his mind to remember the etiquette lessons that Remon had drilled into him. After all beyond being able to live by the blade a Knight needed to make sure they did not die at court.
In a sense Lucian could already count the times he risked such a death. Many of them involve the Prince Gillot of all peoples. Here he needed to be careful about the words he used for that was how problems like those happened.
“I come not as a Knight Errant, but a Priest of Morr.” Lucian said as he gave a firm bow, “Does the Temple of Morr not work with you already on these matters? If there is a Baron just like the one who I slayed holding the blade in his care, then surely they are seeking to betray the living for harboring such an item.”
