"S-so, you know t-that gun he carries about?" "Hard to forget. Always brags about it."
"W-well," Lucy snorts. "H-he tried to d-do a trick with it. Y-you know, those weird red, white, and blue portals?"
"H-he, uhm, threw them all over the place. L-luckily, no one got hurt except for him. He got hurt in a very...sensitive spot."
"Don't tell me..."
Lucy's face turns bright red. "N-not there but, uhm, one of the bullets bounced around and hit him rightintheass." She mutters out the last part, nearly inaudible.
"You're kidding!" Hidaka's level voice nearly breaks right then and there.
Before the conversation can continue, though, both of them notice you're standing right behind them. Lucy nearly jumps out of his skin while Hidaka quickly regains her composure.
You're really tempted to learn more about what Colt was up to. "Sooo. Let's get something to eat." You act as though you didn't just overhear their conversation. "What's for dinner today?"
"Oh! L-last I checked, it's Hotdog...Friday? I think?"
"The fried corn's better." Hidaka grimaces at the mention of the cafeteria's hot dogs. "I don't trust the meat here."
Oh, finally, some good news. Some delicious mystery meat for the sovl. "Hell yeah. Let's get going."
The three of you chatter about inane shit about your shift on your walk over there. Suddenly, the hallway is quickly flooded with hordes of hungry wage slaves. It's like they just appeared out of thin fucking air with how rapidly they pack the tight, narrow hallways. A low rhythmic chant surrounds you as your group is stuck in the sentence.
The crowd hungers for meat, for corn, for actual food. According to your two coworkers, the quality of the food gets a LOT better on Fridays and Sundays. It's not the weirdest thing you've seen but, god, it's like you can't get a break around these parts.
Your group eventually spills out of the crowd once you reach the cafeteria. You can already see an insanely long line forming, filled to the brim with starving wage slaves, researchers, security guards, you name it. The three of you scramble to get into the line before it's too late.
It's going to take a while to get your food so, with nothing else to do, you scan the packed tables for people to talk to. It's best to make as many business acquaintances here as you can, after all, and a lot of people are obviously going to hanging out here.
There are two people absent in the cafeteria that immediately catch your attention. One: the man in tactical gear is gone. You don't catch any sight of him amongst the crowds of people. Two: Ashton's not here either. Odd. You ask someone in the line if they've seen her.
Your fellow coworker said they saw her at the medbay. All they know is that she was worrying and stressing about something, but that's about it. Hm. At least you can knock out two birds (checking on Ashton and dealing with MEDBAY) with one stone.
Who do you talk to, Vincent?
