"Anyway, ToyAgumon and I nearly got caught when we were messing with a pretty big part of the system."
"Messing how?"
"I was trying to turn off an entire road's autopiloting system. I just wanted to see how vehicles were meant to move without it, and then take the code apart."
"Oh, that's big. That's a podding violation, right?"
She nods.
"ToyAgumon fought a few of them off. But we couldn't run far before they started deploying Digimon in response."
"I'm guessing someone from the Dogs of War helped you."
"Wind himself did. Him and Gammamon. Still a Rookie back then. Hurting the Commandramon was enough to make them back off, and I managed to put together something on the spot that let us hide."
"He took a big risk. He could've been arrested along with you, if you weren't a Code Cracker."
That sort of risk-taking behavior doesn't line up with the Wind that you know. It makes you think of what Liza tried to do for Lenny.
"Was it already a big organization back then? I was assuming they didn't get the base until you came on board."
"Small. It was like, a handful of people. Super early stages. Some of the noncombatants and the jamming team leader were here before me. I was the first other member with a Digimon."
She elaborates just a little more on the chain of events that led to them getting the base. From their little shack in a delinquent district, they discovered the sewers, then managed to chart out the facility by sheer luck. That was the point where they started recruiting, and managed to get people like Liza and the dead Otamamon kid on board. Ryan was a newer acquisition. Takuda was an outside contractor who was completely separate from the Dogs of War. And past that point, you're familiar.
"How many years has it been?"
"I kinda lost track. Plenty. I don't really know anymore, I just keep on working on stuff day by day. As long as it helps Wind accomplish his goal, I'll keep inventing."
"So, you don't want to take over or lead?"
"Me? Leading? Nah, no way! But you know what I'll get, if we succeed?"
You shake your head, wondering what mystery prize she's after.
"The City's source code. If we can take full control and oust the bots, and disable all their systems, imagine how deeply I can look into it all! I can understand how the Digital World itself works! Or at the very least, this server that the city is on."
To a genius like her, that must be a worthwhile venture indeed.
