Right, crew mates and skulkers and layabouts. I've about had a nap and I think it's time we get off this Island. I've worked about where we are - and it's not far off from where we started. We're just on the other side of the island, leeside, and luckily I also planned for THIS.
Ha-ah.
We'v got the Atlas. Now, we're going to need a few more things before we're done. First, I have no idea how this works. I don't think anyone alive does. So we'll need records and we'll need information.
We have two choices.
We can make our way to the Quiet Wonder observation post. It was a Vanadian affiliated facility studying astrological movements. Way I hear it, it was part of some Trespasser Project? Thresharmer? Threshfarmer? I'm not sure, and anyway, after they installed new lenses the rumour has it they finally got enough optics to focus on the right stars. And something crawled down the lenses and ate the inside of the lead researcher, caused no end of trouble. Apparently some rowdy looking Pytherii types showed up in the dead of night with lanterns and swords, had a few choice words with everyone involved and the entire faciltiy was shut-down and the island its on declared off limits.
Now, I know that sounds spooky, but it's probably just a metaphor for how costly optics are. Budget overruns is nightmarish, and First Minister Ghellis and his new Treasury management style takes a keen eye towards cost savings. So the project got scuppered and the observation station abandoned. Then it's easier to spread a mildly frightening to story to keep outsiders away. So we'll find the observation post, see if we can get their their records of star movements to compare to the ones on most normal maps and work out a few Routes with the Atlas. Anything too fancy and scientific looking we pack up and take with us. Still, it's been abandoned for a decade and I hear a small clan of Vulpes freebooters have set up a township near the island coast. So don't go thinking we'll find a thousand riches.
Alternatively, the House Luperni has a records library about a month's journey by seaborne wind away from here. They've had the Atlas in their possession for years, so anything related to it will be catalogued and stored there. A quick little smash-and-grab. Issue is that the Luperni will know we're coming. And you've seen how they react to things they don't much like. Luckily, the Records Library is an enclave inside the nominal territory of the Pytherii political sphere, so the Luperni simply aren't allowed to have too many people on site. It's far away from most settlements and supplies are delivered by ship so we'll have time to crack their vaults in plenty peace. And anything in those vaults we grab on the way.
Unfortunately... If we cause too much of a mess, they might send out a distress signal or a boat. Then it'll be the humourless veterans at Legion High Command that comes to present our arrest warrants.
