>>5318047By now, you and Dimitri are riding at the head of the column, by yourselves. You figure the others can’t hear your conversation, so you may be safe from being overheard.
>“Edelgard may have her reasons to hold a grudge against the Church, but I cannot agree with the methods she goes about to wage this war, nor with the ones she allies with. Those who lend her their aid tortured both of my comrades to death, and I myself very nearly suffered the same fate. I cannot in good conscious pledge my blade to someone who would condemn her loyal subjects to such a fate.”“Her allies?” Dimitri asks, puzzled. “Who are these allies that you speak of?”
Taking a deep breath, you go into excruciating detail on what you know about the Inhumans. You tell Dimitri all about your experiences with Kronya and Solon. Their ability to shapeshift into just about anyone. How your friends were kidnapped and tortured. The true methods by which Demonic Beasts are created. The Agarthium back in Rusalka. And finally, how Edelgard was in league with these shapeshifters, and had planned to assault Garreg Mach from the beginning. By the time you finish, night has fallen. You can’t exactly make out the prince’s face in the dark, but judging by the silence that follows, he’s either in deep thought on your words, or utterly perplexed.
“That is…a lot to take in, Blair. I’d heard that this Kronya and Solon had assumed the forms of Monica and Tomas in order to blend in at the monastery…but shapeshifters? Could it not have just been some sort of magic they were employing?”
>“I’ve never heard of such magic before, my lord. And their true appearances were nothing like any human I’d ever seen. I’m sure any of the students that laid eyes on Solon back at Remire or the Sealed Forest could attest to that.”“So, you believe that these shapeshifters have infiltrated the Empire at its highest levels, and are now the ones giving orders? I must admit Blair, this is a rather…tall tale to believe. No one wishes to know that vile woman’s reasons for attacking the monastery more than myself, but I have a hard time believing she was put up to this by others.” You feel a tenseness overtake the prince’s voice as he continues. “Edelgard is a monster. Worse than any Demonic Beast, with a heart as black as night. I know not what motivation drives her, but rest assured, I will find out. We will defeat her machinations, and I will torture her, day in and day out, until I have the truth driven from her lips. Only then, will I allow her to die.”
An awkward silence follows. Judging by the tone in the prince’s voice, you know better than to pursue this conversation any further, lest he either think you crazy, or you be the one to suffer his wrath. After a few tense moments, Dimitri breaks the silence.
