With the fancy car miles away, you turn to your tiny sister. You have no idea what exactly came over you, but you decide to pick up Amelia and hug her. The dummy was very confused at first, but then she not only accepted it, but embraced you back like a baby koala. You both needed it. It’s not even that. After so many hugs, you have come to realize there doesn’t need to be a reason for one.
After the unsolicited moment of affection is over, you asked your sister if she wants to spend some time together as siblings. You could talk. Catch up. All that. It never crossed your mind the possibility that she could say No… and neither did it in hers. You’ll hang out at your apartment.
“Meow.” Bradford Jr. wakes up. He was sleeping inside your hoodie’s… uhm… hood. The big fella steps out of his nest to explore the apartment.
“Do you like having a pet?” Amelia keeps on staring at the fluffy cat.
“Eh, it’s nothing new, I had the hobos before.” You jokingly respond. Weird joke. You better take it back. “It’s a joke.”
“Hehe, I know.” Amelia gets your fucked up sense of humor. Maybe she ain’t as dorky as you like to think.
“But yeah, I like the big fella. No idea why Susie got rid of him.” You never thought about it until now. In a way, Bradford Jr. is a rescue, right?
“It’s not for everyone.” Amelia doesn’t think too much about it.
“Bradford Jr. is a good boy, he’d fit in anywhere.” You say. Except through some doggy doors.
“No, I mean, having a pet.” Amelia clarifies. “Nina asked to feed the outdoor cats that are watching over us. And I wonder if we should adopt one...” The flux of stray cats is still overwhelming around the city, but with people leaving the city in droves, those who remain have taken a liking to the little fellas to feel less lonely. And all those furry buddies work for Susie…
“I’d say go for it. But you know, it’s a big responsibility and all that.” You, the great pet owner, who has owned this cat for less than a week and has been out for all of those days except one…
“Meow.” Bradford Jr. can feel your guilt, but he understands the life of a spy.
“Hmm, maybe not.” Amelia thinks it over deeply. Maybe the real reason she didn’t like hobos is because she was too lazy to care for them? Yeah, it has nothing to do with them being stinky. She starts petting Bradford Jr.
It’s been a while since you talked with your sister on your own. Like, without, you know, getting briefed about everything you missed. You told her about what happened in the Bubble. So it’s possible to have a normal talk with Amelia.
