The Iron Hands for example definitely merge well with the Mechanicum Style of warfare for example, with stratagems such as "Tech Adept" and "More Machine than Flesh" and "Merciless Logic". They are actually a big inspiration to us.
I'm 100% sure none of the votes were of the intend to say that the astartes are incompatible with Mechanicum style warfare. Most of them were wanting to merge instead. Making "let's look at the Genome" = "let's disregrade the mechanicum style of warfare" is pretty mean and uncalled for. Especially for TalOS I don't believe he would want to move his sons away from the faith, he would want to move them closer to it.
Basically Edit the Genome =/= "We aren't compatible with Mechanicum Style" that's a very big non-sequitur
