"Is there an issue with what I said?" Casey chirps. You feel like it's better not to pry into this; Casey is just weird like this.
The three of you step past the receptionist's desk and into the long, long hallway. The sound of someone sobbing also seems to be echoing from the left side of the looping hallway.
You toss Casey your spare oil lantern so she can see (and thankfully it's sealed shut so it won't ignite the spore just yet.)
You probably wouldn't be able to see much of your surroundings in here even with Casey's lantern but with your nightvision googles, you get to see the state of the hallway and hoo boy. It ain't good.
The floors, walls, and ceilings are fully covered with vines with no hint of any man-made material visible. The vines have clumped together into nearly impossible-to-remove tangles like patches of uncombed hair. Their color is odd too; It's the first time you've ever seen vines that are paper white in hue.
Your P-COMPANY ENERGY COUNTER is making a low, constant buzz. While nowhere near as bad as the other facilities you've been too, it's obvious these are from one of the anomalies here...and you doubt it's the piano room.
Clover is trying his best to put up a brave face but it's clear the vines are creeping him the fuck out. "Don't like plants, don't like plants, uh nuh. Deserts are better."
[OPTIMISTIC SPIRIT] "I've always been a fan of meat personally." Casey tries her best to lighten up the mood. "Vegetables are a good source of nutrition but not as much as meat!"
"Did you know that Beetleburger Hamburger Patties contain 15000% of the weekly required Vitamin A, B12, B29, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, L, and Q?"
"C-casey those aren't even...pfft." You shake your head at the inane bullshit being spat out by her. It helps a little bit. "Waow. How nutritious."
Clover tries to fake a smile but the vines are creeping him too much to benefit from her BOON. "That's swell, Casey. Maybe we'll eat some later once we're outta here."
You do feel a bit better, though.
>You heal 1 RESTRAINT! You're now at 7/11!
"Oh! Perhaps Max would benefit from it the most! I do notice she lacks...marketability. A fair maiden deserves-"
Clover stops mid-step. "You don't talk about a man's woman like that behind their back."
"Do not take my words as slander! It was merely a suggestion! After all, shouldn't us valiant heroes deserve the best for their service?"
"Pretty sure Benny doesn't mind her being a bit skinny."
"I don't care much either way. I got my own type." "What, fox girls?" "Shut it, Nicky."
"Your close childhood friend IS-" Before Casey can finish that, Clover interrupts her.
"I said shut up." Despite how harsh he sounds, the smile creeping on Clover's face tells you he's not THAT offended by what you two are saying. "Mission first..."
The light chit-chat was fun and all but any more banter gets knocked out of your system when you approach the breakroom...and the source of the sobbing. The door's not blocked by any vines.
