The Astartes looked around for a moment as they studied the top of the structure for any signs of enemies. They all knew the chance was low that something would come out to attack them at this point but the Astartes also knew that they were dealing with things beyond their own understanding.
Lorch watched over the Tech Priest for a moment as the Magos Dominus continued to feed into the machine information. Lorch had only seen machines stand as still as the Magos at moments like these. He was a machine though, so it was only odd in that he was still that little bit human within all that armor.
“L3KT, do you have an understanding of what we will be fighting besides machines?” Lorch asked over the open channel so that all the Astartes could listen in, “This place belonged to a Schola, correct?”
“It did, and it was likely lost either during the Age of Strife or was abandoned during the expansion. Whichever of these are true, finding an untouched outpost is a great boon and danger.” The Acillian said as he watched the Magos Closely, “Records recovered from both Lucius and Mars showed that on the fringes of expansion humans would fight one another for this information. Thus this bunker was likely built to deter aggression in a hidden location.”
“So it will be armed?”
“Correct. We should expect at the very least Las fire. It would not surprise me if there was Plasma in there, as I heard two of my brothers were almost victims of such defenses upon Lucius.” At the end the Acillian said something that caused the skin upon Lorch to crawl, “There is a chance we face an abominable intelligence. If that happens, it shall be between us and the Machine God.”
One memory came up for the Astartes and it was not a pleasant one, “I thank you for the warning. Prepare for anything while we are in there, we fight what humanity once was.”
To that the three Astartes Lorch brought with him gave their affirmations and agreements. They all knew the danger the AIs could bring as they were the ones who had experienced the same as Lorch.
They will have to try their best to keep this from being a slaughter if this is the case.
