“Do you have any idea why people would want to target stage performers? Do we have any suspects?”
Gloria shook her head and let out a sigh. “We’re still looking into it. I thought that, maybe, the Circus of Crime was somehow behind it, which is why we were monitoring their activity before the incident at the Bellagio. But from what I could gather, they weren’t behind any of the attacks other than the one we thwarted.” Gloria explained.
“And you believe them?” Ana asked.
Gloria scowled at nobody in particular and nodded. “I put them through hell. They’d probably give you their social security number if you glanced in their general direction for too long. Our only lead is this man.”
She pulled out a picture and handed it to Ana. You leaned over to see a tall man wearing a green jacket with brown, upswept hair and slightly pointed ears.
“He’s been spotted at the site of several incidents, so we have reason to believe that he’s somehow involved. If you can find him and shake him down for information, I think that’d help to shed a little light on this situation.”
Both you and Flint took pictures of the photo and saved them to your phones.
“Where was his last known location?” Ana inquired.
Gloria gestured to the folder. “Everything you need to know is in there. I suspect a hunter/tracker like yourself shouldn’t have any issues running him down.”
“Finding him will be the easy part.” Ana declared with confidence. “We should be worried about what happens when we finally catch up to him. A cornered rat can oftentimes be unpredictable.”
“I’ll leave it up to your judgment how you want to proceed. I only have a few rules that you must follow in this city.” Gloria said. “Firstly, I don’t want any of you using guns in public under any circumstances. Unless it is absolutely necessary, you must not use lethal force where others can see you. I have the local police paid off, but that doesn’t mean that the other members of The Family won’t buy them off as well and force them to intervene on their behalf. If they think that I’m grasping at power or trying to make important business decisions without informing them, they are likely to retaliate.”
“So we probably won’t get arrested so long as we don’t cause too much of a ruckus.” you concluded. “Got it.”
“Second,” Ms. Munoz continued. “Be mindful of the territories that exist in this city. If your target retreats into an area where you can’t comfortably operate, do not pursue unless you are certain that you can detain them in a timely manner. Overstepping your boundaries here can lead to severe punishments, and I will not always be able to protect you. What I can do is provide a map so that we can avoid having this conversation again in the future.”
