Lucian could taste the honey within the brew, but the quality was similar to those made by his less able cousins. It did not taste like their works through, instead the Knight could fear the burning of a rot infested barrel staining his tongue with all matters of waste.
Still this did not bother him. He had consumed far dirtier water during his time in the village and survived then. Some stale, moldy ale was not going to kill him that easily. Not after he drank from a well some large vermin fell into and died within.
“I… have a few questions I would like to ask.” Lucian said as he looked up at the nervously waiting bartender, “If you don’t mind me asking them.”
“Iwill a-answer asmany questions as you want, mi lord!” He rolled out with the same quick tongue of fear.
“Has there been any new gangs or bandits roaming the area as of late?” Lucian asked firstly, “Groups trying to grow themselves by cannibalizing others and the like.”
The man looked terrified as he gave his word, “Duke Guine has made sure no Bandits roam his lands mi Lord, I swear by it!”
That was obviously false, for Lucian could call Baron Budapest as Bandit. It also was obvious to him that Duke Guine was struggling to keep the peace within his realm which screamed that he was having problems.
Yet Lucian did not press the issue. In truth if he was asked that he would lie as well. Hopefully the next few questions will get a little more truthful.
“Has there been anyone recently who abandoned their work? Threw their life’s work away in the last year out of the blue?”
The sunken eyes turned and stared almost blank at Lucian. The Black Knight did not say anything else to his words and simply stared down the man.
“Well, a few.” The Bartender said as he gave a nod, “Last year I think Al disappeared, Mason is haunting the well that he fell into a few months ago, and Simon I think has barred himself within his home. M-mi Lord, there are others, but these fellows are those I remember.”
>Focus on Al
>Mason seems really odd
>A basement dweller Simon?
